Both of these tools are handy when your diamond art piece has rows and columns. The plastic edger keeps your rows and columns straight. The grid is used to lay down on the painting while you are working on it and fill in the grid to maintain straight rows and columns. I find it best to fill the grill maybe 2/3 of the way, then slowly and carefully peel it off. Note that not all drills will actually fit into the grid (as not all drills are made exactly the same size). Over time, the grid will start to curve (from peeling it off the sticky canvas), but that won't affect its usefulness.

I loved the packaging of this but it is very thin so can get bent easily.
