Factory regulator died after 3 years, ordered this and was surprised how close it looks to the one that came on the bike. Easy 5 minute install and the bike charges as it should. 5/5.

My 2014 Sportster XL883L was not charging at idle with only 3,800 miles on it. It was charging at 2,000 rpm and up, but not at idle. A local Harley shop said to try the voltage regulator first before replacing the stator. This one was not the cheapest one on Amazon, but I got this one because it had the highest ratings. I put it on, it looked and fit exactly as the original. Bike now charging at 14.5 volts at idle. No more dead battery problems.A word of advice: NEVER boost off a dead motorcycle battery with a car battery! Too many amps. I think that's what fried my original voltage regulator. I ran the battery dead playing around with flashing new fuel maps to the ECM and jumped it off with my truck battery. I had charging issues at idle afterwards.I can't say how long this one will last under normal operation, but it's working good now. I'm thinking about getting another one for a spare just in case. I hear that voltage regulators are a common failure on Harleys. Maybe it's just the O.E.M. voltage regulators that are prone to failure. I dunno. But this one works and is about $200 cheaper than the O.E.M. part.
