love the way it comes in the tube easy to store and easy getting out. Very fun to use and learn how to fly fish. The colors are easy to understand when you are casting. Thanks so much I really love this tool. Thanks

This is the best “desk fidget toy” I’ve ever bought. So much fun during those long boring meetings and is also helping to fix my casting form.

I wondered if this would be just a useless toy, happily surprised to find it a great casting practice aid. Anytime I want to add more muscle memory and groove my casting stroke for tight loops I can false cast with this for a few minutes & get immediate feedback. The rod is just the right length, the action nicely imitates a fast action rod, and the yarn is matched and weighted just right. Looks like a toy but functions really well IMO.

UPDATED REVIEW:I am updating my review. I almost returned this item because I felt so cheated. However, I decided to sink another $20 into this purchase to see if it could, in fact, assist my double haul timing and skills. So I ordered the double haul accessory. Like the original Echo practice rod, this accessory is lacking in detailed instructions and info regarding components. So I fiddled with it, removing the original “line” elements in my original Echo practice rod outfit and installing the new line, which is basically the old line with a spool of lightweight fly line attached. Kinda makes me wonder why the original package couldn’t just include this configuration, giving the buyer the complete tool needed to fully develop his casting skills. So, does it work? I am happy to report that it does work! I am able to double haul with the accessory and am successfully developing my timing. Of course, it is no longer something that can be used indoors due to line length, but that was never really my concern in the first place. I continue to think these items are way overpriced, and I think the packaging of this tool and its accessories lacks the information it should contain. Therefore, I am giving it just a 3-star rating.ORIGINAL REVIEW:I bought this for one purpose only - to improve my double haul timing. While the featured image shows the double haul accessory, it’s not actually included. Surprise! So after paying $39.00 for essentially a shiny stick and two colors of yarn, I would need to purchase something else to learn the double haul. Forget it. I can easily just go outside somewhere and use the real thing - which is likely a better training tool anyhow. Please don’t fall for this “toy” rod.

Every fly fisherman who is trying to learn casting or practice a new technique should have one. This gadget allows you to practice the proper arm movements to easily load the rod and makes it very easy to see what the line is doing.

Good product to be able to practice casting when I don't want to drag out my fly rod. Down side is that you need a lot of space to cast and I wasn't able to cast indoors because my ceilings were too low.

I enjoy this practice rod. We have a small yard so I can't practice with a full size fly rod. The Echo is about 3.5 feet long, and balanced to the 1/4" braided rope which serves as the "flyline" About 4' of red yarn is the "leader" It will cast fifteen feet or so. Great for remembering/acquiring the feel of the cast, and practicing accuracy.I use it outdoors, on grass. Grass or carpet will cling enough to the line to allow roll casting. Indoors, unless you have a large, empty room with a cathedral ceiling, you'll have trouble using the rod, although I plan to try it while sitting or kneeling on the floor.

If you have a large, empty room, say a basement or garage, in your house you will be able to practice with this indoors. My house is not very big and I worried too much about knocking something off a shelf or getting the line hung in ceiling fan so I ended up outdoors with it which basically defeated the purpose for which I bought it. I can use my fly rod if I'm outdoors. I'm a novice fly fisher but I've fished with spin tackle all my life and fishing is hands down the best kind of practice. The rod is only 47" long but I can see where this would be very good for demonstration, the "line" is very visible, or for a total beginner to fishing/casting to learn and practice the basics of casting, indoors or out. The heavy cord is forgiving because it really loads the rod and the rod's action is fast, but for what it is, its over priced. You could get a cheap, short, fast spin rod and some cord for 1/4th of this item's price then use what you have saved to buy Joan Wulff's book "Fly Casting Accuracy" which helped my fly cast far more than all other fly fishing learning products I've purchased put together. Good luck!
