The Hampton Nautical Premium Quality 15" Brass Spyglass Telescope is a great gift for a nautical navigator in your family. The spyglass measures 15" when its four brass tubes, which are clear coated to protect the brass from tarnishing, are fully extended. The diameter of the objective lens is 30 mm. The spyglass is 5" when collapsed and features a stitched, leather wrapped handle. This spyglass also comes with a solid brass cap to protect the lens. Simply push in or pull out eyepiece to bring the image into clear focus. The 15" Spyglass is shipped in a beautiful felt-lined, brass-inlaid hardwood case. The box is smooth hardwood, with a gloss finish, featuring brass side inlets on all sides and the Hampton Nautical solid brass anchor-with-rope logo on the top.

This is a fantastic spyglass. All the reviewers who said they couldn't see anything were obviously city people. This is not for looking in your neighbor's back yard, it is a long distance scope. When fully extended, it is focused 1 mile or more, as you slowly collapse it, you can take it down to about a 1/4 mile. The optics were actually quite good quality, clear view at a mountain range 10 miles away. It has a nice wooden box with brass accents and comparable models at other sellers are much much more.

I returned this. It looks good, but I could never get it to focus on anything. I bought it for my granddaughter, thinking that a 'real' telescope would be better than a toy one. I never even gave it to her.

For the price this was an excellent purchase. I bought it as a gift for a 5 year old who specifically asked for a handheld telescope. Both the case and the 'scope are surprisingly well made. It comes protectively packaged; the scope is in bubble wrap, inside the wooden case, which is wrapped in paper, then bubble wrap, and then boxed. A slight negative is that the scope is somewhat smaller than the box (which is why the bubblewrap fits), so after unwrapping everything there is some room for the scope to roll around inside. I think this can be suitably solved by putting a microfiber cloth inside.Optically the telescope is acceptable, which I consider to be "Can I see anything and is it magnified". Fully extended the scope is very far from focus; I found mine to be in focus (to infinity) after collapsing the scope by about an inch to an inch and a half. The image is not very bright indoors, but again this is definitely in line with expectations. An optically perfect scope, even of this size, should be much more expensive, so I am very happy with this. I think this would be a nice gift for any age, although realistically I'm not sure anyone but a child would use it (It would make for a nice decoration, though).

This was supposed to be a red wood color. Mine came in black wood. This is a gift. But, it still looks neat so I'm keeping it. Packaging was amazing! Really good job.

Worked way better than I expected for the price. Not a precision instrument, but plenty good enough for me. Mostly used as decorative piece in my living room. Occasional use camping/boating (inland waterways), works well enough for navigation purposes.

This item arrived quickly, it is perfect for what it was brought for, as a gift for a young grandson, had some difficulty adjusting the focus though
