The Kalkal Snake Grabber Tool is an unusual thing to show up in my Vine suggestions, but then we live in Montana with plenty of rattlesnakes, and also do a lot of camping. When I first received the tool it was a little unclear on how to set it up properly, the instructions are pretty spartan. We never did figure out the control wire, it seems to be quite a bit too long and in the third photo you can see how far it hangs out of the handle. It had to be pulled back that far in order to get full control of the jaw movement. The orange buckle does keep the jaws in place against rotation, though I wouldn't have really understood that except for looking at the photos on the Amazon product listing. The tool is pretty long, and it's just about impossible to bend down and deal with the snake or other critter with one hand while holding the handle closed with the other. So there's a detent ratchet that can be used to hold the jaws closed. The problem is, it doesn't go as far as the last ratchet notch (last photo), so the jaws can't be locked in a closed position with a skinny snake. Maybe this is a design issue or just a problem with the tool we received. The provided gloves are the real deal though, like having a pair of welder's gloves that come up past your elbows--and I have long arms. The tool is designed to be portable, easily broken down and reassembled. But it really can't be assembled and adjusted quickly, it took us a few minutes even doing it calmly in a quiet garage. Under stress, with an angry rattlesnake nearby, I'm not so sure I wouldn't rather reach for my trusty old machete--though I might take the extra seconds to slip on these Kalkal gloves....
