This is a nice little shovel. I plan on using it for digging a hole in the sand to help plant my beach umbrella deep enough to prevent the wind from blowing it away. It is small and lightweight and very portable, perfect for my needs. The front edge is narrowed and semi-sharpened to help penetrate the ground, or in my case sand. The saw edge can come in handy if you need to do some light-duty sawing. Although it is made of plastic, it seems strong enough for digging small holes. The handle is easy to grip and comfortable for digging. The handle of the shovel has a hole in it so you can hang it for storing. It is neon green and easy to find. I’m happy with this product, just what I needed.

For backpacking in Colorado, plastic doesn't last long. Many areas are rocky, so stainless steel or titanium are ideal materials for a camp trowel. Nevertheless, I decided to give this product a try. I will update this review once I've had a chance to use it, but here are my concerns:- A serrated edge...that's plastic. I don't see this lasting long or doing much good, but we'll see.- The handle is too smooth and, consequently, slick. Not much good when trying to break hard ground.- The point of the trowel appears to be sturdy, but again, they call it the Colorado Rockies for a reason. We'll see how it holds up this summer.3 stars for now, but I'll find out this summer if it can earn an extra star or two...

This is great for doing your “doody” in the backcountry. It has a tapered point to make digging easy. The plastic is strong but lightweight. I wish it had a ruler on the side, but the shovel part is 6 inches long, so it is easy to figure out if you have your hole deep/wide enough (6” deep, 6” wide). I like the bright green color, it stands out in nature, so it is not easy to lose. Good little trowel for basic needs in the backcountry.

The quality of this honestly reminds me of a child’s play shovel. That was my first impression upon removing this from the package. It’s ok for digging in potting soil, or very loose dirt but if you had to use any kind of muscle to dig, I feel like it wouldn’t last long. It’s lightweight, so there’s that…but a plain old metal garden trowel doesn’t weigh much either and would be sturdier! It just depends on what you plan to use this for. If you’re planning to use this to dig near river beds, in wet sandy material (for instance, if you’re metal detecting), this would work perfectly fine! But if you’re planning to dig in hard, dry, clay type soil..maybe look for a different option.

Our scouting group recently went on a backpacking trip to the back country of Morgan-Monroe State Forest in Indiana. The boys used these trowels for their catholes while out in the wild. Not the lightest trowels nor the smallest but got the job done. Was able to cut into some tough hard ground and even through small roots thanks to the sawtooth. Held up to the solid winter dirt without breaking/cracking. For the price, a good value for the need.

I like the fact this is lightweight and a neon green color. It distinguishes it, & the household knows this doesn’t belong outside in those garden tools, but inside where we do small kind gardening to supplement our food. This isn’t meant to work in rocky soil, but it’s great inside in our coco mixed soils, and the ridged edge is all we need for the moderately large plants we deal with.At a list price of $7.99 when I ordered, this seems a good value & a high quality product.
