This factory-style replacement tachometer from Omix fits 87-91 Wrangler YJ models equipped with the 4.0/4.2 liter engine and gives you an accurate RPM reading of 0 to 7,000 RPM. Replaces OE 56002915

I see where people have had issues, and I did, too. I bought 2, 1 just ti replace the old glass on my speedo. In taking that one apart? I saw a little tweeker screw...... I'll be damned, lol. That's how you tune it from 4 cylinder to 6 and possibly to 8? So you have to take the glass off (which sucks to work off that rim) and then the 2 rear bolts to get to the little white tuner screw behind the face. Then drive it sorta just sitting in dash for now, while you tune it.Then, either use an old school tach tool to read RPM's, or, Google "Gear Selector RPM calculator". In my Jeep this was easy. I know my gearing, 4.10, and my AX15 gear values and measurements of tires (measure YOUR tires, 31's are NOT 31") With any combo of RPM in these calculators it will spit out a speed, like 2000 RPM in 3rd gear with 4.10 gears, 29.75" tires will be 35 MPH- dunno if true. Just using an example for numbers. Then use your Speedo or a downloaded GPS gauge if your speedo is out of whack, like mine after changing gearing. Adjust the little white tweeker behind the gauge face until your RPM's match the given speed. I did mine from all speeds from 1,500 RPM'S, 2k. 2.5k. 3k. This will give you a close idea to what RPM's your vehicle should be at, adjust that tweeker screw until it matches the correct speeds.Also- while driving and tuning/tweeking it, try and keep it in the sitting orientation in the dash hole, I know, annoying. But it seems to be "balanced", so if it's sitting at 90° while your driving and reads 2k RPM let's say? When you turn it to be upright and correct, it will change. It's alot of close numbers to get close numbers to get close numbers, lol. But I think this one is now actually more accurate than my stock one- which worked but had a nasty face and rusted up bezel. As my stocker used to show 900 RPM idle (my Holley idle screw completely closed) and now shows 600- more believable. And my old Tach used to show 4k RPM, but sounded like my 4.0 could go more.... the new tach shows a higher 3.5k for the same sound of my old 4.5k RPM, and it sounds more like 4.5k, being honest. Who knows. Lol, but there ya go!!! Hopefully this helps some.

The wiring on the product left much to be desired. Connectors are pretty shody and obstructive. Have to cut and splice main plug. NOT PLUG AND PLAY

Thinking this thing would read zero when powered up I installed it. Nope it reads that much too low when running. Also the wiring to the connector, some was soldered, some partially soldered, some not soldered and fell apart. Sent omix a message thru their site, got a case number, no response. Called them, they assured me they'd have a resolution in a couple days, no response. Been 2 weeks now. I'd stay away from it. My guess is I'll be throwing it in the trash. Sucks, I paid for it thinking omix was quality.

Would be a easy 5 star if the plug was a direct fit. I had to splice wires to the old tachs plug to make it works.Aside from that it definitely works, and it came zeroed.I know my engine and engines in general extremely well. As far I can tell it seems accurate and responsive.

Wires to tach were poorly soldered and questionably matched (see pic, black to green, green to yellow, red to black). Also wires used were smaller gauge than Jeeps wire harness uses or even the wires coming out of the tach.Lastly, wires going to the illumination bulbs weren't even soldered, just twisted together and electrical taped. Can't get it to work (not surprising), but took too long restoring the Jeep and past return period now.DO NOT BUY!!!

Received and installed without issue; it mounts without issue. As shown, you will need to splice into existing wiring harness. I simply cut the plugs from both the original failed tach and their replacement and soldered the wires. Only color change was their red wire needed to connect to the Jeep white wire. All others were same color to same color. With Jeep off, it shows zero. At idle, it shows what looks like an accurate value (about 800 rpm) however, when I goose the throttle, it will only rise to about 3000 RPM and it responds very slow to change. If I were to believe it, I would only drive between about 1000 and 2500 (yea, right).
