I was building a “car trunk” package and thought this would make a perfect small rod for the bluegill, trout, and bass waters of RI. I picked up the 4.9-foot version of this telescoping rod and couldn’t be happier. It’s not a high-end setup, but the fit and finish are surprisingly nice, and the action feels just right for a rod this size. It casts 1/4 oz lures with ease and has great sensitivity for smaller fish. I do wish it had cork handles, but at just over $20, it’s hard to complain. Packs down small, feels good in hand, and performs well—what more can you ask for?Pros:(+) Excellent value(+) Smooth telescoping design(+) Casts well and feels responsive(+) Great compact option for travel or quick outingsCons:(-) Would prefer cork handles over nylonI highly recommend this rod for casual fishing, travel kits, or anyone looking for a compact rod that punches above its price.

Nice telescoping rod. Maybe rated a little higher than what's listed but it seems like a good one to throw in the car for those 'unexpected' sessions :) - the butt section does seem a little short so it would have been nice for something a little longer but for the compactness, it's hard to beat. I have yet to trial this but will report back and update once I have caught something substantial as far as durability and performance are concerned. The craftsmanship seems pretty decent otherwise.

Not sure about the telescoping part, just because have never used one and wondering if will tend to "re-fold" when reeling on in. Plus, it's a pain to re-fold some sections, smaller - at the end - seem like they might break from the force needed to push back together.

I’ve used plenty of rods over the years mostly two-piece, with a few one-piece models for specific types of fishing, but I’d never owned a telescoping rod. I remember hearing mixed reviews from other anglers, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. This one seems usable, but I wouldn’t recommend it for serious fishing.I ordered the 5'9" version, and it arrived in perfect condition. It comes in a flimsy bag that was already falling apart, so I tossed it immediately. Not a big deal since I bought a rod, not a bag. The eyelets come protected by a plastic piece secured with a rubber belt that protects the eyelets. I’m not sure if it’s meant to be kept or discarded, but I plan on keeping it. The rod is definitely carbon fiber, as advertised, though it feels a bit heavier than other medium rods I’ve owned. I doubt you’ll get much sensitivity through all the telescoping sections. The biggest downside is aligning the eyelets. It takes some time to get them straight, but it’s not a deal-breaker.If you’re looking for something sensitive or ideal for light tackle, this probably isn’t the best choice. But for a compact, budget-friendly rod, it does the job. I like that it’s about the same size as my tackle box and fits easily in a backpack. Not the greatest, but it works as advertised and suits my needs.

I just had my first opportunity to try the pole, and it worked great. It seems well made, time will tell. I used to think of collapsible poles as cheap. This one is lightweight, perfect for hiking, and very small when collapsed.

I love the portability of this. I slip it in behind the seat of my Jeep so I can wet a worm when I get a chance, and the size is perfect. Whikle is not quite as durable as my cane pole, but this one is way more convenient to take with me almost anywhere, and so far, it has been tough. At this price, the cost vs. the versatility is a no-brainer, so we are going to order some for the tent box and the other vehicles as well.

Great stand by, not sure it will/should replace a standard rod. I like the idea of having this in my backpack in case something were to happen to my regular rod. I can also put in my biking bag when on the trail if I want to stop and cast a line into a stream or river off the trail. All telescoping rods seem a little lightweight to me, but this one feels like it will hold up to a few seasons of use.
