It only works in a specific and controlled situation. For instance, there can be no other noises in the area. Also, there can only be two people talking. And even those two people must be spaced some magic distance apart, so as to not pick up on the microphone what the other person is saying.If you think you may want to chat with a foreigner in a private spot one on one it might work fine for that.

I've never been good at learning languages. Yes, I could learn vocabulary and grammar. I was even fairly good at translating written word, just not spoken word. I struggled to converse both speaking and comprehending. I love to travel and to meet and talk with natives so a translator like this is a must for me.I've looked at a number over the last couple years and I've distilled my requirements from a translator like this.1) The translator needs to make conversations easy and intuitive. Once you set the languages the translator needs to take over and translate the conversation back and forth with as little human intervention as possible. A free exchange of thoughts.2) It must be able to allow me to listen to another source like TV or Radio and provide me near instantaneous translation.3)The translator needs to be able to provide 2 way translations on calls and texts.4) The translator needs to provide OCR capabilities so I can get translations of signs and menus. I've removed this requirement as my new Android phone can provide this capability and I have international data access.The Timekettle W4 Pro AI Interpreter Earbuds Do all of these things easily using very sophisticate translators that don't give you word by word translations but idiomatically appropriate translations in both directions. In 2 way live conversations both individuals can each use a single earpiece or one can have the earpieces and the other can use the phone for both audio and typed translations. There is also an AI mode which can provide summaries of conversations.I'm impressed with these earbuds too. I normally don't like over the ear style buds but these are light and fit nicely. The sound quality is quite good and the volume which is often a problem with earbuds that don't fit into the ear canal but the volume is good on these. Battery life is also good: Nonstop use for 6hrs plus the case stores another 12 hrs. of power. The case is a little larger than normal earbuds but not so large as to be a nuisance.For me, this is the most natural operating translator I've seen to date and to me that's critical. I want to break down barriers not create new ones.

I speak five languages fluently. Two of them like a native and most of my kids are at least bilingual. That's because I worked for over two decades in U.S. missions overseas. That also means that we have family and friends in different countries. Some can't speak English fluently and my wife does not have the same ability to learn that many languages. We were excited to try this out.Last time we were in Brazil, she wanted to talk to relatives of mine but she spoke no Portuguese. I acted as an interpreter, but she often wanted to keep talking even when I wanted to do other things. She knew some words in Spanish, but Portuguese is a different beast although some people might think they're similar. In other words, she needed me a lot. This will solve that problem.To test, I spoke Portuguese to her and the translation was very accurate. She spoke in English and it translated with the same accuracy. It had some latency and I have a few theories of why it takes a few seconds to translate. First, it seems that it takes its time to ensure it is not tranlating word by word which would be bad as languages don't work that way. Just imagine if it translated "she blew my socks off" word by word into another language. People would probably wish your socks didn't stink. Poor crazy lady. Second, it probably communicates with the cloud (Internet) to check similar sentences and context or it is just the AI doing its thing. In any case, it was very accurate and faster than any app-only solution. I also tried French and Italian and the result was similar.The case that comes with it is very nice and works as the charger. The only complaint that I have is that the lid is not attached. It also doesn't hold the earbuds in place well. You need to be very careful when you close and open. It is a little awkward what it seems like sharing earbuds as you wear one unit and the other person wears the other, but it doesn't go inside your ears like regular earbuds. Still, it sounds clear.It is great to be able to watch videos and listen in English or any of the languages it offers.This is fantastic! With something this good, I wonder if in the future there will be any interest in learning a foreign language. I hope there will be. This can even be used to help you learn another language. I just want to point out that sometimes it doesn't understand what you or the other person say and I experienced a few mistakes both ways. Knowing both languages did help me to clarify what I actually meant. The app is great because it also shows in text mode what you're saying and hearing. It's costly but it is worth it. It's like having an interpreter for any country you go or communicate with.

I was really impressed by the design of these AI translating earbuds. I was very concerns they may need to be inserted into the ear canal opening, but instead they sit over the ear, keeping them fairly hygenic for using with different people. They were a little hard to connect both units to bluetooth at first, but I eventually figured it out. And while I would say the accuracy is good, they aren't 100% accurate in translation, more like 75% in normal conversation. But with slowed speech pattern, the microphones picked up words more easily, so I recommend to speak a bit more slowly than usual when using.
