Basically I like this backrest-luggage rack. It’s not show quality but it is very solid, all the welds are good, and the powder coating is smooth. Assembly is easy enough but, here’s the problem, putting it together requires that you align three pieces, on two sides, and install four bolts. In other words things have aligned in such a way that each of the four bolts go through three pieces and thread into the drilled and threaded back support square steel. It’s kind of hard to explain but if any one of those twelve holes are off at all it won’t work. One of those holes is off and the threads are burred also. I can only get three of the four bolts installed. I’m pretty certain this is a unique situation and not common to all of them but, I can only report what I find. If everything went together properly I’d give this four stars but it doesn’t so two stars. Should you purchase one and if you experience this same issue it could mean the this is a common problem. It does come with the necessary hardware to install it as a quick connect. For me, as a part of Vine, I can’t return it. I’ll file and tap it so the bolt can be installed and tightened properly.

I'm really happy with this backrest for my big Sporty (1200) because it gives me all I want in one docked device. I get the sissy bar with the backrest pad that's comfortable enough for a passenger - even though I don't really ever ride more than an hour or so at a time, that comfort still matters to me. Second, I like the rack's sturdiness - I can put quite a bit of weight on it without stressing the frame of the entire unit or bowing it rearward. And it stays firmly in the 4-point docking system (Sportster sized docking system, not for touring), locked in tightly until I squeeze the rear clamps and lift it up then slide it out of the front lugs to remove it. All smooth and easy - with a perfect fit and an easy install. It's well made and nicely welded, with no big welding errors visible. The powdercoat in gloss black is very nice and I don't think it will chip easily, although for an add-on this high up on the bike I hope it will be clear of anything or it'd be a bad day for me as a rider. Finally, I like the good looks - fits my Sporty well - not too refined as one would have on a bagger or even a Dyna - just enough billet stock flat on the sides to make it look like a DIY rack on a DIY-ish Sportster. A winning combo, and I think it's a great value to get all this. I recommend it.

I had to redrill the wholes, kind of a pain. not a big fan of how the back rest connects feels kinda cheap...would prolly spend a little more and get something better,
