This headset is super cheap, and that cuts both ways. It did fit my ‘99 Gary Fisher with no problem and the stack height is low. I was using a second hand suspension fork, so that was critical for me. The weight isn’t too bad, it was actually lighter than the aheadset se-1 that I took off.The weight reduction is from the plastic lip around the outside of the top race. The best case scenario is that you’re breaking down and regreasing this every six months or so- that plastic lip doesn’t 100% meet the edge of the steel cup. It’s very likely this will slowly fill with rain or mud and seize.If you have the room for the stack and another $10 go for the sealed bearing sets. If you need every millimeter of stack space or you have more time than money this will do.
