Tried it with engine oil and 90 weight gear ol. As long as the oil is at least Luke warm pumps it with ease.. speed is not real fast but it is functional. Does not get hot during use and easy to use. Quality is good. Good value.

Works as it should. Has strong connections with no issues. Easy to use. Pretty sturdy and not flimsy. Great price point.

This AMGSH 60W pump is a rotary vane pump, which is a type of positive displacement pump. The vanes appear to be copper, mounted in a cast metal hub.The housing is also cast metal. This pump is self priming as long as there is a bit of oil in it to begin with to wet the vanes. It comes with a few drops of some kind of dark oil in it already. This pump is driven by a relatively small DC motor, and a gear reduction. There was no grease on the gears, so I added a big of NLGI 2 general purpose synthetic grease there. While it was open, I checked the vanes and cavity, wiped out a few bits if manufacturing junk, and added a bit of fresh clear oil.I did that just to see what's in there for this review. It would be work fine without the preventative maintenance as well. This pump is not fast. I don't know if any of them are exactly fast, you can count on the watts rating for a guide to compare how fast this is to another similar oil change pump. This should be fine for most things. You will need your oil to feel hot to your fingers, but not burning you for optimal pumping speed. You should put a squirt of whatever oil you are pumping into the intake pipe to make it prime faster. Also, tighten a hose clamp tightly on the intake tube. If air bubbles get in the pump from that connection, your pump will be VERY slow.Although not fast, this well get the job done, and it's not too hard on your wallet.
