Very easy to put on and take off by utilizing astiff piece of hardwood to remove it.The hardwood is 2 inches wide and 1/2inch thick by 12 inches long.. We put 3coats of varnish on the stick.

It works great. It is very snug on my specific motor but I am not sure if 4" of steering movement is standard. you measure the shaft that comes out of the steering housing. I would say if it is a little smaller than 4 inches you can always grind it or cut it down to size. The original ones I had loosened up from being in the sun (heat softened the plastic causing it to lose shape) but I don't think these will have that problem. They are connected together with a string so if for some reason one comes off you have a better chance of not losing it. REMEMBER to take them off before you back the boat into the water...you will not be able to steer at all with them on.

My hubby used this on our boat yesterday in prep for lake season. He liked how easy it was to use- said the plastic was flexible to allow him to install with ease. It works as it should and is good quality! Good to know our motor isn’t going to be bouncing around going down the road!
