I didn't have to cut anything. I bought these expecting to cut the metal bar, but my Jeep doesn't have the bar.If you're going to complain about cutting the bar, at least write what make and model you own, so potential buyers know what to expect. And if you've ever cut through metal, then you know it's not easy. Dremel will work. Best way is to use an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel. But expect lots of sparks. Wear ear, eye, and face protection.Jeep Wrangler Sport 2005 does NOT require any cutting .

Don't get me wrong, I like the product. I definitely notice the difference in the 5 1/4" speakers over the 4"x6" speakers that were previously there. However, if you buy this BE PREPARED to do some cutting and some grinding on your dashboard frame. The seller made it clear in his pictures and in his description. It was a little more work than I was expecting but in the long run I think it was worth it. If you don't have some type of multi-tool like a dremel or something similar, you probably need to buy one before installing this.I would give it 5 stars if there was some type of instruction with it. I don't mind the cutting but taking the time to put instructions on a 8.5x11 sheet of white paper would be a help. I installed the speaker backwards and then had to take the screws out and re-insert it into the bracket.

These required a LOT of modification behind the dash to make these fit. The flat adapters you just need to cut the vertical brace, for these I needed to cut the vertical brace as well as cut it back horizontally at the top, and notch the portion behind the dash to make the speaker fit. I've attached a couple photos (though Amazon keeps rotating them 90 degrees CCW). The first you can see at the top where I had to cut, fold, cut (though to be fair if I had cut flush at the top I could have avoided some headache - of course there are no instructions to tell you this), as well as the notch at the bottom by the glove box. The second photo is a close up of the notch by the glove box. The drivers side was the same amount of work. This was a lot more cutting and grinding than many of the other options required. Maybe the speaker angle is better but it's a Jeep so I think the nuances are probably lost in the road noise... If I were to do it again I would have just bought some flat adapters.

Did not fit. At all. Even after cutting out the necessary brackets. 1998 TJ.

I have a Jeep Wrangler 2002 Apex. These speaker brackets fit perfectly. They tilt the speakers toward the driver much more than the factory speakers. I did have to cut a little away on the dashboard supports to make the Kicker DS525 5-1/4" Coaxial Speakers 140 watts peak fit, but it was no big deal. I would recommend these brackets to any Jeep TJ owner

These fit PERFECTLY in my 2001 Wrangler. No modification was needed at all to install. I mounted some kicker 5.25's in these with no trouble whatsoever. Just removing the downward angle of the original speakers made a world of difference! I get the impression that some of the earlier TJ's require modifying the dash bracket in order for these to fit, but in my 2001 there was plenty of clearance. Highly recommended!

Yes you have to hack up some steel bar to fit these, but just do it. You can see where I had to chop in my picture to the right of the top screws in the bracket. I got a foam baffle and some polks in there and they do sound pretty good. Tight fit though. It's a good thing these point the speaker more upward than the stock speakers. Because for the last year I've been able to actually hear the front speakers instead of wondering if they just don't work well. The bracket is surprisingly strong. Use baffles on these too. Otherwise the bass will be non existent. This isn't the bracket's fault, the dash is just not well suited acoustically for bass bumpers. Good product

Brackets came with no instruction or indication of which is left or right. Trial and error to figure that out.Installed on my 2000 TJ. Be aware you must cut/modify the factory brackets to make these fit. Once I cut away pieces of the factory brackets the new brackets fit well. Look for the pic I uploaded to Amazon. On the drivers side you must pull the headlight knob assembly forward and push the speaker/bracket behind the edge of the headlight knob assembly. Parts overlap by about 1/16". If you do not do this correctly, you may not be able to turn the knob to adjust dash light brightness or turn on interior courtesy lights.
