I picked this light up to use in a horse barn. The barn is a good ways from the house and would be extremely dark should power go out while you are out there. So this light is there for your safety. Speaking of safety, it is evaluated for electrical safety so a plus there. Overall, it is pretty cheaply made. Not something I would use in a commercial setting. The plastic feels pretty flimsy and doesn't inspire confidence. But it does have a ton of adjustment for the lights. And compared to other similar lights it is very reasonably priced, so i would say it is fine for home use.

The instructions covered the basics; but there is probably the assumption that the person installing this light has some skills and knowledge. I knew when I ordered this ExitLux power failure light that I wanted to surface mount it on the ceiling in my garage with out using a junction box.I hoped there would be knock-outs available to do that; and yes there was one each in a very good place on the casing, and mounting panel. The (2) knock-outs worked to make (1) 1/2 inch hole for an external conduit connection. None of that is covered in the directions; but if you know what to look for, it's easy to see.If I'd wanted to attach it to a junction box; you can see the knock-outs for just about any configuration you'd encounter. Leaving the rest sealed to keep out dust, bugs, and moisture. There are only (2) power connection choices; and other lights may have additional choices for 220/240V; but the 120V, and 277V cover the most common situations. The instructions say to use the wire nuts to cover any unused wires. But, a common practice is to remove the unused wire(s) completely; which is easily done by snaping the connector out, and back in after removing the 277V wire. The case is non-metallic; so there is no need for a ground wire to attach inside a junction box. Which made my 2 wire plug-in set up very simple.I have it plugged into the outlet for my garage door opener; which is on the same circuit as the lights. I left the cord longer than needed in case I need to relocate it.I've been intending to add one of these type of lights to the garage for several years; but was put off by the cost ($40 in most cases) and the need for hardwiring them to a junction box. There were a couple of times in the dead of winter when I was using my table saw; and the power went out.The garage goes completely black when that happens; and I have to find my way to the door to get some light. Then, go back to make sure the saw is turned off before trying to determine why the power is out. In one case, the saw got stuck on a knot; and tripped the breaker. In another, the power company was working on a power pole repair. So, this light is a great solution for the next time.I know I could do work-a-rounds for the box; but the ExitLux didn't need one. And, it's about half the price of the commercial models. Plus, the battery is easy to replace. Most of the commercial models expect you to throw them away once the battery dies. That's just wasteful, and bad for the environment.I think the ExitLux is a very good value for the features, and asking price for either home, or business use.

I got this for residential use to install in the garage workshop as once I was in the workshop when the power went out and I did not have and light to move around the workshop. This is a nice fairly inexpensive (although the pricing structure is not linear with scale.) See table below for comparison of bundles versus single unit purchase (as per Mar. 1, 2024.)Number in product Amazon Price Price/per1 $17.77 $17.772 $49.99 $25.004 $107.77 $26.946 $97.77 $16.298 $237.00 $29.6312 $299.00 $24.9224 $598.00 $24.92I received it and plugged it in before mounting it to ensure the battery was charged. There wasn’t any note on the unit indicating the battery is unplugged for shipping, although it does make sense to do so. After 24 hours I tested it and naturally the light did not turn on after removing from power. Opening the back, one can see that the battery is not connected and there is an unmarked connector on the circuit board that did not have a connector installed. Tempting fate, I made the connection and the light worked as it was required. The battery connection shown in the diagram is not the connection actually in the unit. The Amazon product page pictures installation components that were not part of my shipment. These are marked as *2, and there was no footnote explaining them that could be found. The *2 items in the picture include 3 wire nuts, 1 light fixture mounting bracket, and 2 #8x32 standard screws. Items actually included were 3 wire nuts, 2 drywall anchors and screws. The instructions indicate to install with standard electrical junction box; however, the inclusion of the drywall anchors and screws is inconsistent with these mounting directions. Luckly I already had all the necessary junction boxes and screws on hand. All that was needed was to remove the rear of the light fixture, after selecting the appropriately stamped locations, drill a hole in the rear plate in order to mount the rear plate onto the junction box after the wires have been attached to the electrical wires. The front then just snaps onto the rear plate with a captive connector already mounted on the rear plate which when mounted makes the right connection to the circuit board. It is a relatively safe and simple installation. Since the fixture snaps onto the back plate is strong enough, I was able to mount it on a ceiling where an existing unused outlet had been installed. The ability to rotate the lights allows to position them to point in the direction needed regardless of wall or ceiling mount.
