The plastic tubes are used to protect the violin edge from the threads of the bolts. Don’t want thread marks on your violin.

Some instructions written in simple English and an illustration of how these clamps go together would be standard with every order!!!!!!

These clamps work very well. However instructions on assembly are not provided. Here are mine:1. Place washer on bolt next to wing nut.2. Place plastic washer next.3. Thread through side with just drilled hole.4. Trim plastic sleeve about 1/2” inch for strad model violin.5. Slide plastic sleeve over bolt.6. Thread bolt through hole on bottom clamp, brass portion facing down.7. Not required, but place plastic washer, metal washer and final wing nut on.I suspect the longer plastic tubes are in case you are choosing to make a Viola or even a Cello. Don’t trim for those purposes.
