Would I use this lens for paid work? Probably not. Would this be the only lens I bring on a trip? No. But for shooting family events, personal travel, and drunken nights on the town, this lens is hard to beat. Its just so much fun to shoot with! Picture quality is so subjective so its really all about perspective, isn't it? Some people would call me crazy for putting a $200 lens on a $2000 camera body. However, I would argue that you are crazy if you are not willing to give a lens like this a try.Pros:-Compact size so great for traveling light or remaining more inconspicuous.-Cheap so easy to buy and no great loss if it gets damaged or stolen.-FAST.-Decent construction.-Fully manual lens will make you a better photographer.-Comes very well packaged from the factory with protection on all sides. This is a big deal because Amazon likes to ship lenses in nothing more than an envelope sometimes. This is way better than the way $1000+ Nikon lenses are packaged, with nothing more than a layer of cardboard to protect the lens from shock and crushing. GET IT TOGETHER NIKON! This is the age of online shopping and packages get straight up abused! Sorry for that rant.Depends on your perspective:-Old-school film-like image quality. Soft, although not horrible if you manage to really nail the focus. Lots of aberrations. Flare. Vignetting wide open. Interesting bokeh, color, and contrast. Most of the quirkiness fades as you stop down, but I pretty much always shoot wide open to get more character.-Fully manual.Cons and nitpicks:-No focus confirmation on Z bodies, but peaking works well.-Not weather sealed. This would have been a nice bonus, which I would have paid extra for.-Not a fan of the provided lens cap, which is the friction fit kind.-No hood provided (not that I would use it much anyway).-Too much fun?
