It chemically fuses to many plastics such as ABS, acrylic, and PVC, and those which become sticky after testing with a drop of Plast-aid liquid. Will not bond to all plastics such as polyethylene or nylon. Plast-aid mechanically bonds to rough surfaces such as wood, stone, and concrete.

I re-plumbed my Pool filter PVC piping system and installed all new valves. When I went to start up the filter, I had some minor leaks. I coated all of the joints with Plast-Aid with 3-4 coats, let it dry for 15 mins, and tested. This product fixed the issues and saved me a lot of time and money. The pool tech told me all the plumbing needed to be cut out and rebuilt to resolve the leaks. Yes, this product is somewhat expensive but well worth it.

If you have a leaky PVC joint that cannot easily be repaired, this can be a useful product. I had a situation where it would have been quite the undertaking to cut out the old pvc and replumb. This product fixed my issue by packing it around the leaky joint. It has held under pump pressure for years.

Found a leak on the back of our pools sheer decent. First I tried to fix it with a high strength epoxy. The epoxy did not hold the leak once I turned the pump on even after letting it have the full cure time. After some research I found Plast-Aid and decided to try it vs busting up the wall to redo the fitting. I put it on in a liquid state as recommended to create a chemical bond and kept layering it until I was out. To be on the safe side I repeated the process and built it to the thickness of the fitting. I let it then sit for 90 minutes (it was fully hardened much faster). I’ve been running the pump now for 6 weeks with no issues! It wasn’t the prettiest job as the area around the pipe was tight but it worked. I will be keeping Plast-Aid on hand going forward because I can see the value of having it. Great product.

The 90-degree PVC elbow connecting my second story toilet and tub drains to the vertical soil stack started leaking. Obviously, a bad solvent cement job when the house was built. I was able to thread sandpaper and a cloth behind the 3-inch pipe and cleaned the pipe as thoroughly as I could, only being able to see behind the pipe with a mirror. Because the backside of the pipe was so hard to access, I bought some acid brushes and daubers to reach the back. I bent the dauber so it would contact the pipe more completely. Then I applied 5 coats of Plast-Aid completely around the pipe, letting each coat dry thoroughly for a day or two. I have flushed the toilet several times over the course of a week and there is no evidence of leaking. I should point out this was a small leak and the DWV pipe is not under pressure, just drains by gravity. I cannot express how relieved I am that this seems to have worked. Because of the location of the pipe between the first and second stories, the plumber told me he would have to open the upstairs bathroom's tile floor and subfloor costing thousands to reconstruct. I will update the review if the Plast-Aid fails down the road. So far so good!

OK to laugh at this story. Ten years ago Sears installed a new dishwasher, the installer failed to use a new flex line for the water line and it burst the day before Thanksgiving. My kitchen was flooded and the installer came back and cut out the soaked underlayment and replaced it. In the process he cut the drain line under the house. I discovered this last month when putting in a new dishwasher myself. The original placement of the drain was in the middle of a major floor joist and due to the slow leak wood rot.Replacing the cut pipe was going to be a long and awkward job due to its incorrect location. Saw a demonstration for Plast-aid and it claimed in worked on black ABS. I cleaned the pipe with sand paper and a razor, rinsed it with laquer thinner, tested the pipe with some liquid to ensure it made the pipe sticky and then primed it with the liquid component. I mixed it to be a bit runny smeared it on then worked it as it got stifer. It got hard in about 15 minutes, I waited another 15 for good luck and ran the dishwasher. Pipe FIXED. Returned the $30 of pipe supplies and enjoyed watching the game. BEFORE YOU BUY ANYTHING TO FIX A PART OR PIPE OR WHATEVER TRY PLAS-AID not much lost if it doesn't go well but a lot of time and money saved when it works and more than likely it will work.

The bond dries hard and holds well, however you really need to be in a well ventilated area when using this product.

I bought this product to repair a Jacuzzi tub with two 1/4 inch chips in the bottom. The product definitely worked to repair the chips, but I would have done things a little differently in hindsight. Although the powder looks white, the final hardened product is a cloudy clear. Although I cleaned the chips as well as possible, there was some staining I couldn't get rid of. Those stains show through the patches. According to the manufacturer's site, you can color Plast-aid with acrylic paint, which would have been a good idea in my case. Also, I would recommend not using any more than you absolutely need, as sanding down even small lumps is a little difficult. However, the product did the job, and the repairs have been holding for three months with multiple daily uses of the tub. The bottle is more than enough for a number of small repairs. I'm definitely saving the rest to use in the future. As stated by others, the smell is very strong. It smells like a stronger version of the material they use for acrylic nails at a salon. The smell does go away completely as soon as the product is dry, which doesn't take long. I did notice that the liquid bottle emitted some odor after it had fallen over in my toolbox, so I would suggest storing these upright after use. Overall, I would recommend this product, but I would suggest doing a test run before starting the real repair.
