They only work with long shafted spark plugs. John Deere offers both short shafted plugs and long shafted plugs. The coils will not work with the short shafted plugs as the end is not removable and is too long for the short shafted plug to fit into.

These coils work for John Deere 445 (Kawasaki 22hp) but require modification. The bolt/mount pattern is exact OEM. One electrical spade terminal is wider than original requiring replacing one spade receptor on the tractor wiring harness. The plug wire is double the lenght of the original. Further, the plug cap end is smaller diameter than the actual plug, requiring removal of the sparkplug screw-on tip as well as deleting the supplied rubber slide-on seal. After those modifications, the coils are operational and functional. Engine runs as expected.
