Better know what you are doing on these.. The electrical connections inside are really shoddy.. The mechanical portion is ok. Nothing as nice as the old one i replaced, but it broke.. so I Installed and plugged in not knowing any better and proceeded to fire up the engine. . First thing I noticed, no choke.. Took the boat out on the water and could only get about 1/2 rpm..It ran fine before installing this device. Back on land with more testing i discovered I suddenly only had spark on 2 of the 4 cylinders.. More testing and I found +12v being delivered to the kill switch wire at the engine. Sending positive voltage to the kill circuit at the ignition black box ruins it.. Well that's what happened.. I opened the remote up and found wires that had come loose from their poorly installed crimp connectors. ... Ended up buying my own keyed switch, and rewiring the thing to make it work.. And it cost me a ($200) ignition pack that i had to replace.. So buy at your own risk.. Have a good outboard manual with wiring schematic, and test procedures to follow before connecting the plug to your outboard. Lucky I at least have some skills and could diagnose and repair as shop time would have been big$$$... There are published works on how to test and what to look out for so you don't ruin your ignition black box.. Look for CDI Electronics 114-5772 installation instructions as they discuss tests you should perform prior to installation so you don't ruin your ignition system.. I learned these lessons way and too late. I assumed a new part would be shipped in good working order.... NOT! So it cost me my ignition pack,. a replacement keyed switch, and a whole bunch of time and frustration...
