Vehicles with automatic transmissions have a flex plate. The flex plates connects the engine and transmission. Most flex plates are made of a thick piece of sheet metal with bolt holes and teeth for the starter. The job of a flex plate is to allow for expansion of the torque converter as engine RPM increases. The constant expansion and contraction of a flex plate over time can result cracks and/or shearing of the flex plate. A damaged flex plate can create serious (expensive) damage. Broken flex plates can not be repaired, they must be replaced. ATP flex plates are made of high quality steel and contain the correct bolt holes and ring gear just like the original part to ensure long life and durability.

Bought this in a pinch. Figured it would probably get close to fitting. I was wrong. These flex plates are significantly different in size from stock. They are so different in fact they never all the way line up properly. I've been through two of these. They bolt up and get close but they're so different in size that camshaft position sensor cannot get a good reading. Don't waste your money. Find a used one that is in good condition from somewhere. The new aftermarket is terrible when it comes to parts that need to fit correctly.

Do not buy this! I have a 2001 Cherokee that I just finished restoring and I took a chance on this flexplate and ignored the reviews on it . Take my word for it as a mechanic and save yourself some time and money and just get oem. The flex plate is not an exact fit and will make touchy feely noises once it makes metal to metal contact on the bellhousing.

Particularly poor manufacturing for such an integral part. The "drum" is bell shaped, taller/deeper than it should be, and flared at the end, burrs included.I was planning to install to crank, run the motor and use a grinder to remove the extra material that will cut into the inside of the bell housing on start from being oversized (the noise people mention).Poor manufacturing circumvented, or so I though. On opening the box it was immediately apparent that the starter gear ring was off center. The gear ring was oversized for the drum, off by ±1mm radially. The thought of that part spinning at 4500rpm or even at all is why i will not install it.If you're reading this trying to solve ye ol 4.0 flex plate, keep looking.

I confirmed with the ATP website that this was the correct part number for my 2000 Jeep Cherokee. I paid to have it installed and it was so far out of spec that not only would it not start, it caused a backfire through the intake. Since I'd provided the part I had to pay to drop the trans again and swap it out with a correct part from a local distributer. We compared the ATP to the OEM and the welded on strip on the ATP that the CPS reads isn't even round and the holes that trigger the CPS are 1/2"-1" off the correct locations. The Jeep now runs worse and we're concerned that the backfiring may have contributed to some valve float. So moral of the story, skip this and buy a higher quality part.
