About Colton Industrial Tools
Colton Industrial Tools Drill Chuck

Precision Tool Holding from Colton Industrial Cutting Tools

Keyless drill chucks provide a convenient tool holding solution for changing tools during a job. Colton drill chucks are built to a super precision tolerance to ensure minimal runout. The turning action is incredibly smooth thanks to the use of ball bearings. Ball bearings ensure greater durability over the long haul as well. A TiN (Titanium Nitride) coating ensures a tight grip and durable surface so that the chuck lasts job after job. This drill chuck is an easy upgrade to any shop!

5C and R8 Collets

5C Collets are one of the most universal collets in a machine shop. Part of the appeal of the 5C collet system is its wide range of sizes, commercially available from 1/64” to 1-1/8” in a variety of bores to include, round, square, hex, serrated. The 5C system lends itself to most jobs.

R8 collets are one of the most common ways to securely hold a tool in a milling machine. Colton Industrial R8 collets are made using high-grade tool steel and are hardened and polished.

Both of these collets are also extremely high precision. Having a set on hand saves you from having to shut down a job just because you do not have the right size!

Colton BXA #4

Quick Change Tool Posts and Holders

Quick-change holders are incredibly versatile in the machine shop. Found almost exclusively on lathes, they allow you to quickly swap between tools with minimal setup time. The AXA #1 and BXA #4 holder (pictured), will work with turning or facing tools and help to keep the job running smoothly. The team at Colton Industrial Tools gave their quick-change holders a bit of an edge: a Zinc Nitride (ZiN) coating on all of the hardware gives it a more durable and rust-resistant finish while allowing for smoother thread action.

Colton Industrial holders are made from hardened and ground steel and allow for extra tool capacity over other holders on the market. While most holders have a capacity for tools up to 1/2”, Colton AXA #1 holders have a 5/8” capacity.

I have quite a few AXA sized tool holders, some that came with the tool post and some that were bought to add more tools. This is the best fit and finish of any that I've bought by a very wide margin. The additional capacity of the XL is perfect for adding larger tooling, so long as your lathe setup allows you to get the tool low enough to fit to the centerline. Some smaller lathes will not allow for this, so measure your lathe prior to purchase to be sure. You need a minimum of 5/8" from the bottom of the slot on one of your current tool holders to the centerline. If not, you will not be able to use the additional capacity of the XL size anyways. Will be buying more from this brand! One more caveat: If you have a piston style tool post, these may be a little loose fitting. If you have a wedge style tool post, there should be no problem. A piston style requires tight tolerance of the dovetail width since the piston pushes the holder away from the post. The further it has to push the holder out, the more slop there will be in the location. A wedge style post draws the holder into the post, so regardless of whether the width is a snug fit or a looser fit, the width will be taken up by the wedge and the tool will be accurately located. You can use this holder on either, but the width between dovetails is slightly wider than others I have and this will result in more tool height variance on a piston style, requiring more attention while tightening the holder into the post.

Will buy these when I need more instead of the cheaper alternatives.

The surface finish is great and all edges are nicely deburred. The coated hardware is a nice touch.
