The quality of the imitation leather material is actually pretty good. To me, it looks and smells like leather. The feel is a little off, but as far as fake leather goes, this is pretty good.The measurements that the seller has is a bit confusing. They show 5.5" at what would be the blade side of the axe. This measurement must include the cover flap, which does not lay flat, and the material beyond the rivets. You can see in one of the images that I posted that you have about 4.75" from the top of the sleeve to the bottom-most rivet. The axe that I show in two of the images is exactly 5" from the top point of the blade to the bottom point. In one of the images you can see that I can fit that axe in just barely being able to button the flap. The tip at the top is high enough out of the sleeve that it will eventually cut its way through the flap.So I think as long as your axe blade is under 4.75" it would fit properly. This 5" axe blade will eventually poke its way through the flap, but it will work for a while.The belt loop is not an additional piece of material sewn on that your belt goes through. You can see this in one of the pictures that I posted. It is just two slits through the back of the cover itself.
