I have an old Trek mountain bike that I've ridden for decades. A few years ago the crank arm simply fell off. It turns out after all those years of biking, the crank arm had completely worn down. I couldn't bear to throw the bike away and I couldn't donate it in that state, so I just put it away in storage.I decided to try to buy a new crank arm. For a while I wondered why it was that people only sold left crank arms. It turns out it's because usually the right crank arm is attached to the gear, while the left one (which is usually the one to fail) isn't.I bought a crank arm only to realize that the hole for my old one was square when I held the crank arm up vertically or horizontally, while new crank arms use "diamond" or "rhombus" shaped holes (essentially the same hole, but just tilted to a 45 angle). The result when I installed it was that my pedals formed an awkward "V" shape. Not a lot of fun to ride.I was happy to find this crank arm with square-shaped hole. As you can see, it fit perfectly, and suddenly my worthless old bike was just like new.If there's one bit of advice I have, it's to buy a bike wrench from ROTATE TOOLS (search for "RT-163L-LS Pedal Wrench" on Amazon). I spent hours and hours trying to get the pedal to screw out of my old crank arm, and even broke a few traditional wrenches in the process. This tool got the pedal loose in about 2 seconds.Overall, very happy that this company still produces these parts for older bikes. It's solidly made and works perfectly.
