When I was growing up, I and my siblings had belts like this because we were military brats. The ones we wore then were solid brass, but not the bright shiny ones our dad wore. We didn't have to keep ours shiny, so they got pretty tarnished and scuffed up over time. This buckle is more like the ones I had as a kid. So I always liked them that way. A little nostalgic value...We'll see how this one — especially the antique finish — holds up with time, but it seems like a quality finish, and as far as how it's made, it's exactly the same buckle I remember. Only the metal composition is different, but I'm okay with that as long as it doesn't start rusting.

Just know the clamp that holds a web belt in place is designed for thin webbed belts. A standard military web belt is close too being too thick. I had to use a pair of wide mouth pliers to force the clamp to close and lock in the belt. It does come with a replacement tip for replacing the metal lead end of a web belt. So far no problem with the black paint job scratching.

The metal sliding piece is very hard to move and it hurts my fingers. When it gets crooked, it's even worse. Otherwise, buckle functions as intended.
