I’ve done quite a few 5 cylinder Volvo timing belts and I’m not impressed with the quality of this tool. The tabs allow several degrees of variation, and although this will be good enough to ensure you’re not a tooth out on reassembly if you’re just swapping a belt, it’s not good enough to get you in the middle of the tolerance range if you need to pull the cam sprockets and then remove the tool. Crude low quality casting of the protruding tabs and the slots with excessive clearances mean the cams will move while tightening or loosening the cam sprocket bolts. I’ll try aligning the extension tabs with parallel blocks and then weld the extensions to the arms to remove most of the slop so I can use it as a backup tool, but it’s just not very good and probably not worth the effort. If you’re just looking for some assurance that you haven’t slipped a tooth while swapping a belt, it’ll do the job.

decent tools but got broken by jr mechanic, not sure how that was managed but steel shouldn't snap like that. it got a few uses before that happened and worked very well, could possibly have been a flaw in the metal somewhere that just hadn't decided to give the first few times.

The plates/brackets are high quality with a precise fit, so they function as designed. They are quite durable and a good value for the money. I like the storage capacity of the box each piece has its own spot. It would be nice if each piece had the OEM equivalent number on or next to it. It's easy to use if you know what you're doing. And I like the look of it.

Picked this up as I am going to have to change the timing belt out on my xc90 soon and will need this. The tool is made of solid steel and should hold up to years of use even by a professional mechanic

I got this as a backup set as I've had times that my primary set was in use when another was needed.I set this tool set up for a cam gear job and found out quick that this tool allows the cams to rock a couple of degrees each. Too much to consider precise enough for how finicky the control systems on a newer engine can be anymore.On the older 5 cylinder it probably won't matter nearly as much.I simply can't rely on this tool with what I do, so it will be going onto the shelf where it will probably sit.

As a professional automotive technician who specializes in European vehicles, I have a lot of experience with engine specific timing tools. Many Volvo engines use a holding fixture that attaches to the back of the camshafts and engage in the slot that is machined into it. This holding tool is so crudely made that the tab that would engage into the slot is rounded or tapered making holding the camshaft nearly impossible. I won't be using it or trusting it to keep everything aligned properly. Some of these cheaper options are great but this one is a miss. 1 star for quality and value.

I've decided that I'm going to take my Volvo 960 to the grave, so I am doing all the maintenance and repairs myself. I tested this tool on my spare B6304 engine that I am rebuilding and it works perfectly, just like the factory tool. I appreciate the plastic case to keep the small parts organized and secure. Huge savings over the factory tool and other copies out there.

This is a much cheaper option for tool kit 9995452 vs other options, but comes with extra accessories like the carrying case and gloves. Those are not necessary, but nice to have, and for this price, it's easy to recommend this if you own a Volvo you do maintenance on yourself. Volvo engines are very precise, so you need the right tools to not make your life harder. And considering how often the camseals and areas around the camshaft can fail, this is an excellent kit to have on hand. Trying the tools on a Volvo XC70, they fit well.
