My 2008 Cayenne S was getting the recurring "Four-wheel drive system faulty" message for several months. Cycling the transfer case through low, center-lock and reverse did not remedy the issue so it was time to try this replacement, which appears to have been successful: after driving several hundred miles, the error message has not returned.Hot tip: be sure to put the vehicle in low-range mode BEFORE pulling out the old stepper motor or you will not be able to get the spline to line up with the new unit (even using pliers etc to line it up) since it's like a full 75% out of rotational alignment with high-range out of the box. I had to reinstall the old unit once I discovered this so I could get it into low-range to get the new unit installed, which slotted right in without needing to turn the spline at that point.Another thing I needed to do once I had the old unit out was to break away the old, crumbling heat-protection loom from the wiring and re-sleeve it with fresh looms, along with some high-temp tape wrap, so be sure you have these things on hand if you want to do the same. This will help the wires to continue to be protected from the exhaust pipe heat & elements.

Worked exactly as expected on my 2005 Cayenne, resolving a potentiometer fault and intermittent "4WD System Faulty" light. Would have liked it if they included new mounting bolts, but otherwise no complaints.

Perfect fit on my 2008 Cayenne. No more "4 wheel drive faulty" error on my dash. Gears are also shifting smoother now. Highly recommend this unit.

My 09 Porsche Cayenne was throwing a 4 wheel drive failure fault. Id read that the cause is likely a failed transfer case server motor. The OEM part is about $800 and another $800 for the dealership to install it. This part from Cardone was under $150, and is an easy DIY project. I was able to slide under the Cayenne and remove the 2 electrical plugs and 5 - 10mm bolts without jacking the vehicle. The orientation of the spindle on the defective OEM was a bit different than the spindle on this replacement part, which would not allow the part to be installed on the transfer case - they must align, so I used a pair of Channellock pliers and gave the spindle a quarter turn until the spindles were in identical positions. The part installed easily on the vehicle in under an hour. Removing the electrical plugs from the defective until was the most difficult part of the job. I recommend this part.
