I gave this mini machine to my 9-year-old for Christmas, and while she wasn’t initially excited, her interest grew once we started using it together. However, I wouldn’t recommend it for younger children, like preschoolers or kindergarteners, without close supervision. The tools are safe enough for a cautious child to use independently but do require parental guidance for safety instruction and setup. My daughter, being particularly safety-conscious, always wears goggles and handles the tools with care, especially the lathe and jigsaw. This machine strikes a balance between safety and functionality. Its limited power makes it less intimidating and reduces risks, but it also means progress is slow when working with thicker materials. For a beginner, this trade-off is worth it.One of the main drawbacks is the tool-changing process. Switching between tools is tfussy enough that my daughter can’t manage it on her own yet. Because of this, she primarily uses the lathe and jigsaw. Both tools work adequately for small-scale projects and serve as great introductions to using more advanced equipment in the future. The included wood pieces are a thoughtful addition, as they are appropriately sized and suited to the machine’s capabilities. However, the provided turning gouge wasn’t very effective, so we’ve substituted an old 1/8" chisel for lathe work, which has been a great improvement.Overall, this machine is a bit pricey for its capabilities, but it’s a first introduction to woodworking. It provides a safe, accessible entry point for kids who are eager to learn and create. With some guidance and a little patience, it’s a valuable investment for fostering creativity and building confidence in young makers.
