If you're just doing your NP 231 transfer case, they'll be a lot of pieces in this kit that you won't need. So you'll end up with a lot of extras. To change out the needle bearing on the rear end of the front output drive shaft, you'll need a special puller tool to get it. Otherwise you're going to have to hack at it with a dremel tool and pull it out piece by piece. The input shaft seal in the photo was a pain to get back in. I ended up having to use a hydraulic press to get it back in. All the seals and bearings fit perfectly though. There are no instructions that come with this kit, but if you take your time and measure and inspect everything closely as you're pulling apart your NP 231, you'll be able to figure out which bearing / seal goes where. I have very little experience with working on cars and I was able to successfully do a complete rebuild of my NP 231 without instructions.... Good Luck!

Perfect rebuild kit for the NP-231D. Used this kit to rebuild the transfer case on my 99 dodge ram and every piece fit perfectly. Absolutely no problems with installing this kit or getting it in.

Missing one seal and one bearing. Defeats the purpose of buying a kit if I have to source basic parts elsewhere.

Kit arrived quickly and was neatly packaged with all sensitive parts individually protected. No instructions, like was said in the other review, but this isn't a complex transfer case, its fairly easy to figure out what goes in which spot.
