Rain, road grime and salt can deal a vicious blow to your trailer wiring, and it takes electrical components with an extra-thick shell to stand up to the elements. The CURT multi-function electrical converter is an advanced taillight converter that offers the ultimate in vehicle compatibility and weather resistance, giving you a reliable wiring connection any season of the year. The potted design seals the internal electrical components in a watertight enclosure and is filled with a solid compound to protect against impacts, vibrations and moisture for long-lasting use, even on the exterior of the vehicle. The converter also features our advanced surface mount technology (SMT), using smaller components mounted directly to the surface of the circuit board. This produces lower resistance, reduced heat generation, longer life cycles and higher reliability. The CURT multi-function electrical converter comes with pigtail wires that are able to be spliced into two-wire, three-wire or PWM wiring system with combined stop and taillights. It converts any of these systems to a simple two-wire system, using a standard 4-way flat output, to be compatible with most trailer wiring. The converter is controlled using a microprocessor that is able to sense the current passing through it, allowing for quick reaction to dangerous conditions such as overload and short circuits. It also filters unwanted input signals to protect your wiring systems and uses a mere seven volts for low-voltage operation. The CURT multi-function taillight converter is a heavy-duty electrical converter for virtually any vehicle-trailer combination. It comes with color-coded wires and an easy-to-read wiring guide, as well as a dust cover to protect the 4-way flat connector. This package includes a powered converter wiring kit #55152 and four snap locks for faster, more secure splicing.

Installed on Mercedes 2010 ML350. Installation was straightforward except that since the main module has to be placed on the right side of the car, the left turn signal wire was short and I had to extend it. It would have been nice if the manufacturer had longer turn signal wires for both left and right to make it easier for users to place the module on either side of the car. Extending the cable was easy enough and the unit worked as intended. The shop wanted $150 to install it in addition of charging retail price for the unit; it takes less than one hour to install everything for a newbie!

Bought and paid for new product but got a used one. No instructions, wiring was cut very short and some were spliced together hidden under electrical tape. Turn and brake signals were not working. I returned the defective item.

First one installed flawlessly on a 2014 BMW 535i and the second will go on that cars replacement, a 2018 Mercedes GLE 350 that I foolishly bought without the tow package (don’t do this). This kits comes with everything you need, the unit is small, doesn’t get hot and easily hides anywhere. The 4 pin portion is long and the cables are quality, so routing it from the inside to the hitch is not an issue. If you have a two wire car (tail + brake/signal in my case) there’s no easier solution that I’ve found.

Works great difficult to wire in. I identified which wire on each bulb by probing the back of light plug with a lighted test wire.

The hardest part about this is getting the black wire to the battery.

I'm no expert, but installing this trailer wiring kit was a piece of cake. The instructions were straightforward, and I had it up and running in no time. I've used it a few times now, and it works like a charm. A solid purchase for hassle-free trailer connections.

Works great for a harness for my 2012 Golf. Wish there was more green/yellow wire but made it work

I installed this on a 2018 Ford EcoSport. The reason I picked this item is because when I looked at getting my trailer hitch and lights installed from U-Haul this is the piece they were going to use for the trailer lights. I installed the module behind the driverside tail light. The wire to go to the right tail light for the blinker was not long enough and I had to add on which I used 14 gauge stranded wire and a waterproof butt connector. The connectors that came with it were to large for the wiring in the car so after I put everything back together only the running lights worked because the connectors didn't penetrate the wires. I tore it back apart and put smaller connectors on and everything worked great. I did accidentally end up cutting a wire trying to put the connectors on but I believe it was a faulty connector and ended up using a crimp nut. Overall it works great after a 4 hour install but im no pro, there was allot of trim I had to remove in my car, and I had to take a trip to the hardware. Running the wires was a pain and the short wire going to the passenger turn signal was annoying. Ecosports are super skinny and I had to add on about a 1 -1.5 ft of wire to make it to the right blinker. This is not a vehicle specific item( which most the time is an adapter for your tail light plugs, super simple) and the vehicle specific item for trailer lighting was about $200 more so id say the trouble was worth it but the wire going to the right turn signal should be longer. Also the wire going to the battery I ran underneath all the trim on the driver side floor and I cut off about 3ft, the ecosport is super short so you may have to add on to that too depending on what your installing it on. Overall yes I would recommend to others cause it's cheap compared to a vehicle specific setup but you need be able to figure out what wires do what (I used a DC 3-24volt meter, you could also use a multi meter, on the tail light plugs) and be able to do basic wire connections. Take your time it's not as terrible as it seems lol.

This is the right module to install on a 2015 Golf Sportwagen TSI. All trailer lights work as they should and there are no issues to report. This gets 4 stars because of the following minor details:1. Green wire: I wish it was at least 6" longer so that I could properly rout and secure it to the chassis. The wire is covered; thus, it's not a major issue.2. Black wire: I with is it was as long as the supplemental black wire they provide. I'm a person who believes in minimal number of connections (crimped or otherwise)3. Black wire routing: all instructions and online videos show drilling of holes in the chassis and running the black wire under the car, into the engine, and connecting it into the battery. I'm not prepared to drill holes in my car, so I opted for internal routing and internal attachment to the under dash fuse box (worked like a charm, but you do need the flat fuse contact from VW).4. Instructions: they are clear as long as you know what you're looking for and know how the car taillights work. Getting to understand how the tail lights work is the key to properly wiring the module.
