I was having a low charge voltage issue with the 85-95 v-max r/rand was looking for a series r/r to decrease load and heat in the charging system but true series r/r are more expensive than I can afford so I decided to upgrade to this 96 up stock type r/r which has cooling fins the earlier version does not have. I was getting around 13.2 vdc at the battery with the engine running at full charge. I replaced the oem one with this newer version/upgrade and now my battery voltage at idle is 14.1 vdc without the crimp mod. I had to get longer mounting screws since this is thicker than the oem one but that was a minor inconvenience and it mounted right up. dielectric grease in all the electrical plugs and it was a direct plug in. No complaints so far.
