Hose Sizing Chart

Choosing the Right Size Hose for My Water Feature

When Sizing your Freeze Flex Pond Hose, make sure you choose a pipe that will not restrict the flow of your pump!

The ratings in the chart are the minimum and maximum efficient flow rates through the tubing. The minimum flow rate is the flow that a pipe will produce with just gravity pushing the water. The efficiency rating is the rate we recommend using for your tubing to keep friction loss to a minimum. Max rate is the maximum GPH the pipe will produce with pressure from a pump.

If your hose is 1.5" and you buy a 6,000 GPH pump, your pipe will only allow 4,400 GPH to pass through it. You will be wasting money on electricity and paying for a stronger pump that will not give you the desired result. You will need to run an additional pipe or change your hose to get the desired flow rate!

Many people expect to achieve greater flow by simply buying a larger pump. They do not realize that flow will not increase unless the tubing can also support this increase inflow. Please do not let this happen to you.

Using the chart above, you will be able to easily determine the best size tubing for your pump size.

This 1.25" tubing is used for the lake suction of a lawn irrigation system. It is fairly rigid and has functioned well for this full summer season.

This has been unrolled and laying in the sun for hours. It’s not remotely flexible. The hose it’s next to is flexible, as you can see it’s laying flat. This hose is rubbery but very rigid. So if you have any bends this is NOT the hose for you. I’m regretting this purchase.

I am very impressed with this product. I have been using lightweight tubing (the corrugated type) for my pond for years and invariably every year one of them springs a leak and never in a convenient spot. For just a few more dollars this product is a much better solution. It has thick walls which add to its heft just be warned it will require precise matching to fittings as the outside diameter is significantly thicker than the corrugated type and would be hard to squeeze to make it smaller. Also, it will not bend as easily so not conducive to tight turns. None of these issues we important to me I am looking forward to a no-leak pond for some years now!

It doesn’t bend quite as much as we would like, but we certainly won’t need to replace it every year like the typical corrugated pond hose.

I have an Ikea outdoor sink and was looking for a solution to connect my sync to the drain that is on the other side of my rooftop deck. This FreezeFlex did the trick! It has the right level of sturdiness, flexibility and I could easily make it fit underneath my pavers. It was also easy to cut to the right size!

We needed a good hose for our outside waterfall feature that would not crack do to cold weather. I think this hose was a good choice.

Mixed feelings for it. Yes it is VERY sturdy to the point that It’s near impossible to bend it as needed in order to hide the tubing In my pond. However, it’s VERY sturdy which tells me it’s durable and will easily outlast those cheap and flimsy alternatives. I also struggled to set this up since it is definitely bigger than 1.25in. In diameter I ended up using parts for 1.5in tubing (barely fit) And once again, it’s VERY sturdy which means a hose clamp or zip tie will do nothing to tighten the fit if you actually try to use it on 1.25in connectors.

I had written a review that this was much larger than I ordered, however, with the use of different fittings.... and extra "waterproof tape wrap", my husband was able to size this down to fit on my pond spillway system.I have to say, that my waterfall now REALLY puts out the water! This tubing was not ribbed like the one that came recommended with my pump, by the same company. I had measured the inside diameter of my old hose which was 1.25 inches, and also this heavy hose... which was also 1.25 inches, yet my old hose would fit inside of this?!? I don't understand this, but there it is!You need a tight fitting with this hose as hose clamps will not tighten this enough as the hose is sturdy. I don't think we will be replacing this hose anytime soon! Looks to be a great product.
