The optical design, which incorporates a focusing group comprised of aspherical and ED elements, minimizes chromatic and comatic aberrations. It also reduces the curvature of the image plane at close range, which means the reduction in close focusing distance from 70cm (27.56in) to 50cm (19.69in) will have little to no effect on overall image quality, despite the shorter distance from the lens to the subject. Offering an equivalent 35mm focal length of an 85mm lens, its fast maximum aperture delivers both precise control over depth-of-field as well as beautiful bokeh effects.

The lens itself is great. I did notice that the one i bought was marked as a Weather Resistant version, but i was sent the non- Weather resistant.Didn’t buy at full price, so i assume that is why.

The Fujifilm XF 56mm F1.2 R WR has quickly become my go-to lens. It delivers exceptional sharpness, even wide open at f/1.2, making it perfect for portraits with stunning background separation. The bokeh is buttery smooth. While a bit heavy, that’s a small trade-off for the build quality and weather resistance it offers. Autofocus is accurate, though not the fastest or quietest, but the overall image quality and color rendition make this lens a must-have for Fuji photographers.

A fantastic lens, well built, sharp, near perfection.Although initially concerned from reading other reviews, I did not find it to be large or heavy on my Fuji X-T5.Highly recommended.

Build and image quality is astounding. All the hype is deserved. I love using this on my Fuji X-T5 with its 40 mpxls. This lens stands up to those demands. My only caveat is that when focusing from near to far, and the reverse, the lens hunts quite a bit before locking on, and the motor is a little loud. I don't do video, so that doesn't bother me, but for a thousand bucks, I would expect a quick focus whatever the conditions. After using it for 2 weeks now, I've decided to keep it purely for the image quality. If you don't need the weather sealing (WR), you might prefer the earlier version of this lens (R), whose price has dropped a third since the WR release.addendum: Been using this lens now for a few weeks and contunue to appreciate it. While the focus is still wonky when going from very close to approaching infinity, in regular use, I never noticed a problem simply because I rarely shoot from close to far and back very often. I still think this is a fault fuji should fix.

The only reason I'm giving a bad review is because, I paid for a new lens and I received a used lens with scratches and dust inside the lens. This is not acceptable, and I don't know who's is to blame, Amazon or Fuji, but I recommend Fuji to seal this boxes, from manufacturing to avoid this situation.

The Fujinon XF56mm/1.2 R WR is a perfect balance of beautiful image rendering, micro-fine detail, sumptuous bokeh, and professional build quality. I have been photographing at a professional/expert level since 1975 doing most of my best work with 8X10 and 4X5 large format systems. Now that technology has progressed to hand held, high resolution systems that can rival large format analog standards, the final hurdle to make the transformation of photography complete has been that elusive, aesthetic quality - the magic in the rendering. This lens does that superbly. The image accompanying this review was made outdoors with natural light, in late afternoon, for an orchestra performance librarian at work. Note the rich, subtle color rendering, flesh tones, and detail accompanied by painterly bokeh. Shot at f1.2, 1/2,700th, ISO160, Adobe RGB, Fuji X-T4.You will not be sorry with this lens for portraits and for use in low light.

Absolutely fantastic piece of glass! Was afraid they would ruin it into some mediocrity, but thanks god they didn’t. My most beloved lenses were 35mm f1.4 and 56mm f1.2 and I always asked , like many others , just to provide the same optics, but with addition of weather resistance and linear motors. Unfortunately some decisions makers at Fuji, decided differently….. and approved the use of another slow focusing stepper motor instead of fast linear one. Pity, because the glass is incredible sharp, bokeh is simply delicious and creamy smooth with the new 11 diaphragm’s blades unlike somewhat nervous one the old lens produced with 7 blades. I would say it has now more 90mm look to it with advantage of f1.2. Incredibly sharp, even wide open. Worthy heir to old one. The only negative point is frequent focus hunting .

I am re-entering the Fujifilm X eco system with the recent introduction of the excellent X-H2S.I have to repurchase lenses to use with my X-H2S, this was one of the two. This is a portrait lens that would accompany my XF23mm 1.4 WR.Fujifilm had just recently redesigned their venerable 56 1.2R lens with a new model that had updated optics, motor and weather sealing - Fujinon XF56mmF1.2 R WR. It also has a lockable aperture ring. I decided to purchase it.The reviews on the updated lens are spot on. This lens is super sharp wide open at an aperture of 1.2. This is astonishing,It seems to have a flat field of focus wide open, with the edges of the frame being super sharp too.I was not expecting that. This can double as a landscape lens too!The background blur (bokeh) was really pleasing, making pictures taken wide open stand out!The focusing is very fast and silent. The X-H2S does a great job of stabilizing this lens at lower shutter speeds.I am glad I chose this lens to pair with the XF23mm F1.4 WR for my X-H2S.If you are thinking of a portrait lens for your Fujifim X-system, this lens masters that genre and more.A new masterpiece!Highly recommended!
