I had trouble getting the lock to open initially, but discovered that the key just needed to be wiggled slightly to rotate it 180 degrees to unlock and allow the pin to be pulled back. It worked fine after a few rotations to loosen things inside. The whole locking mechanism (the bar portion and the lock itself) are very well made and should offer definite security for your vehicle. It is easy to setup in the vehicle by attaching it to a foot pedal. I actually use mine for securing my bicycle's wheels to prevent bicycle theft, which is a big problem nowadays. This lock is very heavy and very solid and should last many years with regular use. I would recommend adding a few drops of machine oil inside of the lock once a year just to keep things oiled up well, otherwise it is low maintenance.
