Recently replaced all the outlets in our bathroom and kitchen with these and they've been a solid upgrade from our outdated ones! Installation was straightforward for someone with basic electrical knowledge - just make sure to turn off the power at the breaker first (learned that lesson years ago the hard way!). The hidden screw design is what initially caught my eye and it really does look much cleaner than traditional outlets with visible screws that collect dust and grime. The thinner faceplate made installation easier in some tight spots behind our kitchen cabinets where the old bulky GFCIs barely fit. The self-testing feature gives great peace of mind - the green indicator light confirms its working properly and I've noticed it doing its regular self-checks as advertised. Tested the GFCI function with a proper tester and it tripped exactly as it should. The reset and test buttons have a satisfying click and dont feel cheap or wobbly like some other brands I've tried. The weather resistant rating was important for our bathroom that gets steamy from showers and so far no issues with moisture affecting performance. The tamper resistant feature works well - you do need to apply equal pressure to both sides to insert a plug which takes a tiny bit more effort but worth it for the added safety with our curious toddler around. One small issue was that the wire terminals are a bit tight which made inserting thicker gauge wire slightly difficult, but this probably contributes to a more secure connection long-term. No issues with devices tripping it unnecessarily which was a problem with our old GFCIs. The modern look has actually gotten compliments from guests which is funny for something as mundane as an outlet!

Keeping you and your family safe:GFCI enhance safety and are especially useful in wet areas where the water might form a pathway to ground (bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms or outside). They have been required in those areas for a very long time by the National Electrical Code and all state building codes since the 1980s. GFCI do fail over time, leaving the circuit unprotected (unsafe) or open (outlets do not work). They all have test buttons but who bothers to regularly test them. I know I don’t. The self test feature is in the 2018 NEC, but not yet adopted by all state building codes. So this feature is newer, but not at all unique. All of the GFCI at a recent trip to Lowes had it.A GFCI protects not only one outlet, but all downstream outlets as well. So don’t just replace an outlet that might already be protected by another GFCI. The self test may cause the other GFCI to trip and be difficult to diagnose. Using this GFCI to replace another older GFCI probably won’t cause issues. You can wire them incorrectly if you switch the upstream and downstream wires it will leave circuits unprotected. The side with tape over them is for downstream. If you are worried you can use a $6 Gardner Bender GFCI tester to verify in this and downstream circuits. I am not an electrician but I did wire my own house and used this device to verify that GFCI were functioning properly. The building inspector used the same one. Please follow all state and local building requirements, some of which may require that this be installed by a qualified electrician. This particular device:It is a GFCI and works. At $10 this is a decent value, a bout 30% less than comparable Legrand, Eaton, or Leviton devices. The outlet appears well made and the tamper resistant (TR) shutters work easily. The connections that it makes with a 12 or 14 gauge wire seem solid and reliable. The WR rating means that you can use it in an outdoor box. If you aren’t a fan of the matte finish or have multi-gang boxes, this device also works with Leviton Decora, Cooper Aspire, or similar covers. The product description claims that the device is thinner. Thinner than what, my truck? It is the same size as other GFCI and make installation in boxes with other devices difficult.

The unit feels well built, very similar to the units at the big box stores. It has a snap-on cover plate so there are no screws that show. I don’t like the squared edge design. Nearly all wall plates are rounded at the edges, so this looks a little out of place. Otherwise, no complaints. The wire connections are easy to use screw down plates that make for a clean looking installation. The screws to attach to the box are in a separate bag instead of being installed on the device. The tamper resistant design is nice, and it has a self-test feature that checks itself every 15 minutes. If the device is not working the self-test will light a red led. It comes with GFCI stickers to use on any downstream outlets that are also being protected with this unit. Currently, it is several dollars less than an equivalent big box GFCI.

I ordered this GFCI outlet to replace an outlet that was functioning erratically on the exterior wall of my workshop. I have noticed that frequently when I plug something in, the outlet has tripped and requires resetting.Three key features particularly attracted me to this product.Firstly, this GFCI outlet is designed to be weather-resistant, which was an essential consideration for my installation on the outside wall.Secondly, the inclusion of an LED indicator is a thoughtful touch, as it allows for easy monitoring of the outlet's status with just a glance. Moreover, the installation process was quite manageable, thanks to the outlet's smaller form factor compared to traditional GFCI outlets. This made it easier to fit within the narrow confines of the metal box.Overall, my experience with this GFCI outlet has been very positive. I encourage potential buyers to consider this product seriously for their electrical safety needs. As a reminder, please ensure you locate and turn off the circuit breaker before servicing any outlet or electrical device.
