After having my brick mailbox totaled out twice, I decided to replace it with something I can repair on my own. This post is a great match for the Gibraltar Mailboxes Ironside Large Capacity Galvanized Steel Black, Post-Mount Mailbox, MB801B.

I had to have contractors spend two days trying to get this post working and fitting with the Gibraltar mailbox. I had to spend more money on different bolts and have new holes and hardware drilled in. Not to mention cost of labor. For this reason I couldn’t recommend this product to anyone who is buying it specifically to go with the Gibraltar mailbox.

This fits over a 4x4 post (typically, wooden) that you have previously sunk into the ground. It screws into the post. But it is a little loose. I had to trap some wooden shims (available at any home center or hardware store) between the wooden post and this metal post, then drive the screws through them and that was a little bit tricky. So they lose one star for sturdiness; without the shims it will wobble a little bit. It was otherwise easy to install and it looks good so far.

I lost my mailbox in the Montecito mudslide and chose this stand and mailbox that goes with it now that I am coming to the end of repairs. I ordered a black stand and received white and that is supposed to go with a black mailbox! Now I have to paint it. It is never the same when you paint it yourself but I can not wait since I opened box, dug hole and have a helper here waiting for the installation. I would have to pay him no matter what.Very disappointed in that. Otherwise good quality.

Needing to display a 15 pound piece of metal art inside the house, I was stumped how to show it. By complete accident, I saw this mailbox pedestal. Perfect. We’ll made and sturdy. And the black painted design form to me is very 1930’s Art Deco, and couldn’t have been better for my purpose. Just a thought for another use for this fine product.

Easily assembled and can be put together different ways for different style boxes. It is a gorgeous stand for a beautiful box and looks amazing. It took hubs and I about 20 minutes to assemble and place on a cement slab. If placing in cement I suggest getting two bits for the drilling as they wear out quickly.
