I drove the metal into the dirt with no problem. But beware the sharp edges. WEAR GLOVES. Then I put the wood post over the metal per instructions. But the ground did not offer enough resistance so pounding the post onto the metal drove the metal farther into the ground. The result is that the post is not as well anchored as it should be because the metal did not go far enough into it. Overall, good product but in soft ground I would recommend putting the metal into the post FIRST and then installing into the ground as a unit.

Very easy to install. I did put a coat of polyurethane on it and it is beautiful. Mailbox easily attached. This post goes over a metal rod to install. It is not wobbly but also is not in concrete.

I took some precautions like a worm clamp on the base to stop splitting. Greased the spike so it would go into wood easier. Yeah right. Anyway it is up and holding the mailbox. In just the right soil I guess it would be great. Sounds like a lot of folks don't have just the right soil. Would go another way if I had it to do again.Update: After three years stake rusted off even with ground. Box of course fell over. This thing was a constant problem.

I bought this because I did not want to "dig a post hole". My old mailbox was over 25 yrs. old, and was falling apart.. The soil where I live is VERY rocky, and hard to dig (and I'm 65). I went to Lowe's and Home Depot, and, to my surprise, neither really had a mailbox that did not require digging. This one said it needed to be assembled (the post), but it was very easy. I drove the post 16" deep with a sledge hammer, but it took less than 1 minute. Also, putting the post onto the stake required a sledge hammer, but the hole was pre-drilled, so it was easy. The hardware was included, and the holes were predrilled, so only a phillips head screw driver was required. Attaching the mailbox (not included), was more work, but not difficult. It is good to go for 25 more years !!

Its a great idea at the same time, a horrible idea. Did exactly what the instructions said and it still won't stand straight and leans. I whacked the post as far as I can into the dirt and still leans. I tried shoving pieces of wood into the side it leans to and still won't stop moving. Even shoved a metal rod to try and stabilize it and still won't work. Being I sealed the wood before setting up I can't return it. Sealed it so it last longer through bad weather and heat/cold. If I could return it I would, but can't. Going to pull it out put a block of wood in the hole so it holds up the rod then use this liquid cement (= to 100 lbs vol of cement) bag that will dry in 3 mins like cement and hope it will keep the post straight without leaning and/or moving. Go for the post that you need to put in the ground instead of that steal rod. This post is too short to put part of it in the ground. NOT WORTH BUYING!!!! Hope this helps. Thanks

This is a great mailbox post. I only wish it was about a foot taller, I live in an area with high winds so I had to bury it a little. Other than that I have no issue with it at all.

When the first one came in it had a split down the side, had another one sent out which also had a split. When you try to hammer it on the stake the split just gets bigger. Once the second was finally put in it isn’t sturdy at all.

Real nice mailbox & post. Had it in my car for several days prior to installation & the smell was heavenly. East to install. It was a gift for a friend who lost her mailbox during Hurricane Michael & is a great replacement.

Great addition to complete the matching birdhouse mailbox we ordered. Took DH a few minutes to work out the details, but we are old and slow sometimes (especially if I tell him I'm busy, you have to do it). :-)~Ours was a good solid product, as described and easy to put together (just follow directions).~ it looks awesome with the matching birdhouse mailbox.~Seems to be good construction for the price, and easy enough to construct~Allow 30-45 min. to fit to mailbox and erect~Be sure to have a couple small needed toolsCan not attest to "long term" endurance of this product, as we have only used it for a couple months now, but we are very happy and love the whole set up.We did paint with one coat of Thompson's Waterseal to add extra life.
