You never truly appreciate your A/C until you can’t control it proper. I have a Chevy Malibu 2002 and my A/C kept turning on and off. The ventilation buttons would act up as well. Took my car in and they said a new control panel wasn’t readily available but would probably be around $600 when they finally find one. Googled and found this. Had a mechanic friend install it and boom! Cold, crisp air when I want it! The buttons on this control panel suck, it’s a design flaw of Chevy, not this product. The product copies the original and it works. That’s what I care about.

Fixed the intermittent flashing A/C button on my 2001 Chevy Malibu. The internal electrical contacts eventually wear out causing the A/C button to flicker and the A/C to not stay on. The only way to fix this is to replace the old module with this new one.

WOW & YAYYYYYYYHHHHHHH! My car has, very, cold A/C -- FINALLY!!!I have a 2005 Chevy Classic, with less than 55,000 original miles. The A/C & rear defroster haven't worked, in years. After doing much research, I decided to buy this "Control Panel, w/rear defroster." No instructions came with the control panel. However, I "YouTubed" how to remove and install this control panel. It took me, less than, 10 minutes to replace the panel. However, it did take 30 minutes to re-program the car.Yesterday, I took the car for a spin. The weather was well over 80 degrees. My car's A/C works soooooo well, that my dog was shivering -- I had to turn down the A/C -- poor thing!DEFINITELY, buy this control panel if your old one no longer works. I'm really, really, really happy that I made this purchase!

We had a problem with my son's car where the AC light indicating that the compressor should be coming on as required kept shutting off. If this switch is not "on," then your compressor will not come on, and your air will not cool and dehumidify. His AC worked great when the light would stay on. It took all of 15 minutes to install this, and I'm not a real mechanic. Now his AC stays on and works great. If your AC "flickers," meaning that the light shuts off erratically but when the light comes on, it cools well, then this may be the solution for you. His car is a 2004 Chevrolet Classic (a rebranded 2003 Chevrolet Malibu). Good luck!

With summer coming up, my girlfriend was complaining about her A/C button not staying on all the time. It was sporadic and would flicker on and off which meant that the a/c system would function in the same manner. Half the time in her car, it was just a hot mess and terrible to drive. With the age of the car (2004 Chevy Malibu), the windows have problems. The only real means of cooling the car was the A/C. After searching around on several other sites I came up with this unit. This unit went in flawlessly and took only about 30 minutes to complete. The part itself attaches with only a couple screws, as well as the vacuum lines in the back of the temperature control and electronics for the others.I would have given it 5 stars, but took one off because of Amazon themselves saying this part would not fit the vehicle stated above. Reality, as I stated above, it was the exact part. After running the car for another 30 minutes and putting around the neighborhood, I didn't see or feel the A/C switch or cycle as before.

The A/C on my early 2004 model Chevey Malibu was showing the same symptoms mentioned in EAZ's review of this item..."The panel needed to be replaced for the following problems:- A/C would not stay on. The A/C button light would blink or turn off.- A/C would only work on certain fan speeds. Changing fan speed would cause the A/C or recirculate to turn off.- Recirculate mode would not stay on."The part selector tool says this fits 2003 model Malibus, but not 2004 models. My ID plate and VIN indicate my car is a 2004 model, but many of the parts on this car look like 2003 model parts. So, I ordered this unit to fix my misbehaving A/C.I swapped out my old control unit with this item in about 15 minutes (My thanks to EAZ for his instructions). Once installed, my A/C was back in business. About three weeks after the swap I went on a 1000 mile driving trip from Southern California to Bryce Canyon, Zion National Park and back home again. My A/C didn't skip a beat for the entire trip, and kept my family from roasting in the 100+ degree (F) temperatures.

This is a factory part and once replaced should solve the problems listed below. It worked perfectly for me.The panel needed to be replaced for the following problems:- A/C would not stay on. The A/C button light would blink or turn off.- A/C would only work on certain fan speeds. Changing fan speed would cause the A/C or recirculate to turn off.- Recirculate mode would not stay on.How to replace 2002 Chevy Malibu Heater Control Unit (similar for other models):It will be helpful to review the customer images I uploaded to this page.1. Disconnect the negative battery cable (original connection uses 8mm wrench).2. Place brick or something behind rear tire to prevent vehicle from rolling. I don't depend on the parking brake and always place something behind the tire.3. Remove your key from your key ring.4. Use a tack puller, flat screwdriver or preferably an interior trim/panel removal tool to lightly pry the bottom of the ignition bezel loose. The ignition bezel is the part around where the key goes in. It says Off, Acc, On, Start. Start prying at the bottom and work your way around. It comes off pretty easy. Be careful not to break the plastic clips that hold it in.5. Put the key in the ignition and turn it to on. Put your foot on the brake and move the gearshift selector from park to 1.6. Look at the pictures I upload at the top of the page (customer images). Here you will see the bezel clip locations. Lightly pry one of the clip locations away from the dash. Work your way around until the bezel comes loose. Do not pull away from dash yet.7. Locate the cigarette lighter connection plug on the backside and remove it. You can now pull the bezel away from the dash.8. Remove the two screws that hold the control unit in place. I believe these are 7 or 8mm.9. Slowly pull the control unit out of the dash.10. See my pictures. Disconnect the plugs and vacuum lines one at a time being careful not to break any of the connections. They can all be removed by hand, but you may find a small flat screwdriver helps with some of the clips. Be careful - do not break the clips!11. Install is reverse of these instructions.
