I will say the things I didn't like first just to get them out of the way because after that I can only say positive things about this flash.First off, a little heavy. But this is a professional tool so it is worth the weight, and it is very secure to the hot shoe. Second, I am not a fan of the video light coming out of the main flash. It would have been nicer if this was somehow a front firing light, so that I can actually use it for video, and then the flash as a bounce for the pictures. Third, I hate the dial. It is very uncomfortable and I can't imagine using it for a whole job. I don't understand this design. If it was a little thicker it would not need such aggressive knurling. Also, it takes some effort to turn. And it is small and thin, so it is not as if they intended you to twist it with two fingers, but instead to move with one, like you would an ipod or a camera body. And it is just a ring and a center button. So no directional controls or quick buttons here.Alright. Well the rest is positive. The build quality is fantastic. And there are really good design elements that keep everything as sleek as possible. There are no odd flaps that stick out or even a battery door. I really like that the battery has its own charging port. The interface is great. This really makes up for the silver ring because you can do everything in the UI menus. And they just make sense. Swipe right for the menu, swipe down for settings, etc. Color is used well to denote the modes. It is as if they hired a good app designer to create this interface. It is smooth, responsive, and looks deceptively simple for the extensive features that you can access. The case is actually great. It is robust, soft inside, and has a great belt strap, as well as a couple of external pockets. I would have liked to just keep the mini flash on the main flash when slipping it into the case and keep an extra battery in the outside pocket instead, but that is not a big deal. Also included is a stack of gels and some bands, as well as the ferrous ring that you can replace the plastic one with. I like the look of the red ring because I am a nerd, but it is good to know that I can use modifiers like the diffuser dome that are magnetic if I switch out the rings. This is an excellent quality flash and the price reflects the "you get what you pay for"-ness of it. Just the fact that it will shoot about as fast as you need makes it pretty indispensable for a wedding or graduation party.

This flash works very well on the Canon R5. There's some strengths to this flash and some weaknesses, but overall it is a very good unit. I would rate it at 4.5 stars if I could. I talk more about the negatives in this review, but that's only because the good features work so well they don't need much description, while the downsides are worth being more aware of.The controls are easy to use and operation is very straightforward. Build quality is good and the ability to recharge the battery pack with USB C is great. The amount of control that this flash offers in terms of power level is the best I've ever worked with. It has the standard full power, half power, etc., all the way down to 1/256, but you can go up or down by 0.1 instead of the standard third or half units. The touch screen on this flash is very bright. That's great if you're outside on a sunny day, but you will want to turn it down all the way if you're covering an event in the dark. There are only a few notable downsides that I have found, but none are deal breakers for me. The unit is not weather sealed and uses a proprietary battery. It also doesn't have as fast a recycle rate as I would like. The lack of weather sealing is a problem if you're trying to use this as an on-camera flash and the rest of your gear is sealed. You have to either take this off or switch to a different speed light if you think you might be shooting in an environment that could get damp. For many photographers this wouldn't matter, but for a photojournalist, this might be a deal-breaker.Another potential downside is the proprietary battery. Unlike with a AA powered flash, keeping spare batteries on hand is harder if you end up shooting longer than expected. The battery life is good, but this is just something to keep in mind. The slow recycle rate surprised me. On the R5 in H+ mode with a legacy lens, it could only shoot 3 or 4 frames at 1/8 power before it would miss 3 frames. When firing a full power flash, it takes just under 2 seconds to recharge. When firing at 1/4, you can only fire about 12 flashes in 5 seconds. This just doesn't keep up with the speed of modern cameras. For studio work it would be fine work portrait work on location, but for journalism or event coverage this is not ideal. This flash has a lot of features, but navigating the menu system can be fairly unintuitive. It's easy to get stuck in sub menus and not know how to get out of them, or not know which menu is specific feature is under. I would recommend downloading and reading the manual very well. For example, the ready beep is turned on by default and is incredibly annoying for anything other than studio work. I like the beep on my studio strobes, but not on an on-camera flash. It took me a while to figure out how to turn it off, but that could be user error. It's not on the main menu- you have to either double click the home button or swipe down from the top to access the menu to turn off the beep. This flash works well. If you're comfortable with the drawbacks and not primarily a journalist or event shooter, this is a great unit. I will keep my Canon flash in my camera bag, but absolutely keep this around as well for quick portraits where I don't have time to set up a studio strobe.

This flash is so perfect for portrait photography! I bought it last minute after my old flash broke before a wedding. It’s performance matched, if not exceeded my Nikon flash. It’s very user friendly, and the rechargeable battery lasts all day!

I have been using a Nikon SB 400 flash for a while. This has been a welcome addition. This flash is powerful. Nicely fills the room with light.Love the magnetic adapters - super easy to add gels and bounce cards. The lithium ion battery has a very short cycle time. Great when you need to take multiple pictures quickly.

Can’t beat the performance for the price. At 1/3 of the price it does at least as well as the Profoto A1. I have switched all my flashes and strobes to Godox over the last year. I am a huge fan of the value.
