This is one of those tools you really need when you need it. I don't much care for snakes. I don't hate them; I just don't need the company. We have been remodeling a mountain home that sits way back in the woods. So far, we have encountered four snakes, Three black snakes and one copperhead. The copperhead was one of the fattest I've ever seen. The copperhead we had to kill, two black snakes got into the walls and one escaped to the outside. We haven't seen any others in a couple of months but after seeing this tool I figured, yeah, that would be a lot better than poking at a snake with a stick. This tool is very sturdy, made from stainless steel. It has a reasonably comfortable grip, and I would guess that you could exert enough force on a snake to kill it if you needed to. It is designed however, to hold a snake in place until it can be released. It has three lock positions that grip tighter and tighter to hold a snake in place without having to keep constant pressure on the grip.It has two blades on each side of the gripper that have serrated edges designed to hold a snake tight without cutting it in two.The tool can be disassembled into two pieces that have the cable running through them making it more easily packed or carried. I found however, that trying to fold it in half seemed to put a lot of pressure on the cable. For myself, I'm just leaving it assembled and hanging on the wall in prominent place while we're working on the house. Everyone knows where to find it if we need it.So far, I've yet to need it again but if we do, I'm sure it will be a comfort to have.
