The clock keeps good time so far and the chimes are beautiful. I purchased a Stanley Miller mantel c!rock in Tulsa in the 80's for much less money, but does not keep time near as well as this one and is not even close to as pretty as this one.If you desire a mantel clock this is the one for you

The clock arrived yesterday, and I can unequivocally state that I was VERY upset. The clock kept time fine. The outer appearance was fine. But the chime tone and the tone of the strikes of the hour were HORRIBLE. Sounded like broken glass. I have several Howard Miller clocks. I even had a mantel clock from Howard Miller that this one was to replace. I've never run into this issue. I spent a lot of time online and on the phone yesterday calling around to see who, if anyone, was online/working on a Sunday. I used the Howard Miller site to get a certified clock repair guy. Finally one responded. He came today--Monday--Monday afternoon. He managed after close to an hour to get this clock to sound close to how it is supposed to sound. He showed me how the works were loose. He then tightened that up thinking it would fix the tone. It got better. But then he noticed that there were more loose parts. He had to loosen the entire inner workings and remove it. Then tighten things up from there. Then put it back. Finally he had to work on the hammers. Yes, the booklet said that the purchaser could do that. But it also said you shouldn't have to. I wasn't about to start bending them. I've never had to on any other clock I have purchased from Howard Miller. Finally the clock sounded nearly perfect. Honestly it is still slightly off, but I'm waiting a while until I can determine whether I am prejudicing what I hear from my aggravating experience here. The clock guy said that he did all he could do which made me think he, too, felt that it was not 100% but maybe 98%, like me. Anyway, this shouldn't happen. I asked the guy what he thought caused this, and he said "the shipping and handling, probably". There were only two pieces of styrofoam to remove and I removed them exactly like the instructions said. I did notice that the hammers were NOT 1/8" above the rods like the specs said that they should be. No there was no outer damage to the packaging--either the Howard Miller box or the outside Amazon box. So I have no idea what the root cause was. But it shouldn't have happened.

Beautiful clock - I purchased this clock and am impressed with the beauty of the wood - which is a lighter color than some other styles of Howard Miller - but it has beautiful color and grain. The tone of the real chimes is very nice! Construction of the clock is quality - as you'd expect for this price. I have the clock on my buffet and the size of the clock is a really nice - easily see the time from anywhere and it makes a striking presence.

The clock arrived 6 days after I ordered it- earlier than expected. The wood is beautiful and the face of the clock is very attractive. The chimes have lovely tones that resonate throughout the house.
