I've used many tap and dies in my life. I know how to use them correctly to but the one I just got and used for maybe 5 minutes broke. I used a steel die on a brass rod and the die broke cracked.

The die was needed to thread a rod to fit the weird UNS thread of a lamp finial. It worked.
