ILM tends to make great products at affordable prices, and this is no different. I recently bought a jacket that had no pads, and I found this set. It fits perfectly, and it feels comfortable on the torso. I just wish they had a level 2 set

Note: I'm rating this product based on feel and quality, not its effectiveness against blacktop/road surfaces.Right out of the package, these feel great. The thickness/density is impressive and gives me the feeling that if I were to fall from my perch on my bike, I'd be pretty well guarded against road rash. It feels more like hardened rubber/plastic instead of the thick, squishy foam like some other armor. The pieces are just as flexible as other brands in this style and fits the same, allowing you to fold/manipulate the armor into your favorite riding jacket. I feel that for the price, this armor is a great deal.

As always, I do not test motorcycle safety gear by crashing my motorcycle, so I can't speak to how well the protection actually works. That said, there are incredibly ventilated and flexible. The armor is only level 1, so keep that in mind. Most decent jackets will have built in level 2 on shoulders and elbows. BUT many jackets (including some expensive brands) don't even come with a CE rated back protector. These are more comfortable to wear in my old Rev'It Airwave than the armor that it came with. The flexibility and ventilation are a big plus. IF I do ever go down, I'll let you know how they perform.

I have a $500 factory jacket that came with the saddest armor I've ever seen. I have bought armor sets at over $100 that are also lame as can be, but better than what that jacket came with. This is the best set of armor I have ever seen. If you doubt my words, go check you jacket and inspect the armor inserts. I bet these are better. Worth 3 times the price. Buy them now before they read this review.

Now, I am not a professional anything. I have no method to test or validate the claimed protection level. This is just based on my experience and my first impressions of the pads. I know some random companies have been accused of throwing a CE label on their products. I can't say whether that happens or not. I do think ILM has a bit of history and appears to be a legitimate operation that accurately advertises their product ratings. They are not a pop up company with a name made up of random letters. From what i can tell they make mostly budget orientated gear and advertise it as such. That is just my opinion.I tried these in two Joe Rocket men's jackets, the atomic and the Phoenix. I took some pictures for comparison. In the first picture you can see these ILM pads on the right and the Joe Rocket oem pads on the left. The second picture is the ILM laid on top of the Joe Rocket back pad. The back and elbows are very similar in size. The shoulders are a little smaller with these. They all fit well in both jackets. The shoulder pads end up riding a little lower and don't cover quite as much towards the neck as the originals. Not an amount of difference that concerns me, and the fit is still good on the "corner" of shoulder. The ILM pads are much more comfortable though. They do seem well made.As for protection. I did a little whacking with a hammer. These pads absolutely spread the force of the impact. So did the originals. Can I tell the difference? I don't think so. I can't perfectly replicate the force used and I can't really measure the result. I can tell you that the Joe Rocket back pad is trash and does not even claim to be CE rated. I have no doubt that this back pad is an upgrade there. I am comfortable enough with the others that that OEM pads will not be going back in my Phoenix. That's my most used jacket and I'm happy with the protection and comfort of these pads. Come summer, I think these will be at least a bit cooler too.
