The photography cognoscenti tell us that lenses do not need protective filters. Any piece of glass mounted on front of a lens will alter the captured image. Moreover, most lenses come with a screw-in lens hood, which offers broad protection. I am old school and think otherwise. Good photography lenses cost a bunch of $$$$. Photo shoots involve swapping lenses and with this comes risk. Just moving the camera about can cause the objective lens to hit something.K&F is a well-known photography accessories company. This line of UV filters, the X Nano series is a mid range product. The lens has coatings combined with sharp glass. But the key tell is how does it affect my images. Will it interfere with auto focus? Less is more. I installed the K&F 49 mm ϕ filter on my Sony 35 mm close focus lens. It screwed on and received the expected precision feel. I tend to use spot focus with this lens to capture sharp images in close focus mode. In a few trial shots, I discerned no difference in shot quality. It’s a winner. The packaging the lens came in shocked me. The case is one size fits all and it seems to be able to hold up to 150 mm ϕ filters. The case is clearly not environmentally friendly. It’s probably the price we have to pay to get a low cost filter.Top rating.

This filter is from K&F Concepts' premium filter range. The company also offers a budget range. I have bought several filters and other gear from K&F, as they represent good value for money. At AUD 78, this premium filter isn't cheap but is more affordable than premium filters from different brands.I like to find a sweet spot between price and quality. Doubling the price doesn't necessarily make something twice as good. As a non-professional, punching above my weight and using extraordinary gear, I am satisfied with good-enough filters. At the very least, these K&F Nano filters are good enough and plausibly far better.I installed the filter on my Sony FE 40mm f2.5 (see the attached images), which has a 49mm thread. One can fit filters directly on the lens, with the lens hood detached, or directly on the lens cap. I have chosen the latter because I want to retain the hood.. I probably don't need a UV filter on this lens as its unusual lens hood encloses the glass. The OEM lens cap fits snugly in the filter housing, so I'll leave the UV filter on.

Let me preface this review by explaining how I use these filters. I’m a wedding photographer and my wife is often my second photographer. I shoot Sony and she shoots Fuji. We also shoot wildlife and landscapes. Between the two of us I have purchased 23 K&F lens filters. Since we are working photographers, and rely heavily on our equipment, this UV filters are pretty important. I have had 3 lens front elements saved by UV filters, and because of that they have been worth it. These have been situations where a lens was dropped during a switch and landed on its UV filter, a cat pulled down a camera strap and the camera and lens landed right on its UV filter and another incident where I was taking a group photo in a church and my slung camera hit a corner of a chair’s back rest. These are all situations where the UV filter saved the lens. In all situations I was able to unthread the filter, pick up the glass shards and keep shooting. The first two situations the lens hood actually broke too, and in the chair corner situation, the corner was at a perfect angle to fit right in and get the lens filter. There have also been situations where I’m shooting in the rain, or near a fountain and I can just wipe water off the front lens element with a microfiber cloth without needing to take them time and very carefully clean it.Regarding this specific UV filter, it lives on a Fuji 35mm f2, and is thin enough to match the small lens body. It’s super low reflectivity means that it’s very hard to put it in situations where it has any effect on the image. Basically, it’s there for protection and has a near zero effect on image quality. Nothing more to ask for!I’m including photos of portraits of my Kitten where she is directly backlit and another where the sun is just next to her. These were both shot a the Fuji 35mm’s maximum aperture of f2. In the photos where the sun is just to the side of the subject you can see purple blobs that are not present in photos without the filter. It was actually very challenging to get these purple blobs! I had to shoot a ton of photos into the sun, and the purple blobs were only present in very narrow angles. I’m not seeing any haze or loss of contrast and the only downside to this filter is those very hard to create purple blobs.

I recently added this K&F Concept 67mm Ultra Low Reflectivity/MCUV protecting filter to my photography gear, and it's proven itself to be an excellent asset. This dual-purpose filter provides an invaluable extra layer of protection for my camera lens. Whether I'm shooting outdoors in varied weather conditions or just trying to keep dust and scratches at bay, this filter adds a reassuring safeguard without compromising image quality. It effectively combines MCUV capabilities with ultra low reflectivity, providing crisp and clear images by minimizing haze and cutting down on unwanted reflections. One of the standout aspects of this filter is its sophisticated nanocoating. The ultra low reflectivity technology ensures that glare and reflections are kept to a minimum, maintaining the natural color balance and contrast in my photos. This feature is particularly beneficial when shooting in challenging lighting conditions, as it enhances image clarity without altering the scene's original look.I also appreciate the filter's included protective case, which is versatile enough to accommodate various filter sizes. This flexibility is a fantastic convenience for photographers who use multiple lenses and filters and want to keep their gear well-organized and protected during travel. Moreover, the Nano-X line's renowned build quality is evident. The filter is sturdy yet lightweight, making it a practical addition that doesn't add unnecessary weight to my setup. The water and oil-resistant nanocoating is a blessing for easy maintenance, especially during outdoor shoots. In conclusion, this filter is a remarkable choice for anyone looking to protect their lenses while enhancing photographic clarity. It’s a worthwhile investment for both amateur and professional photographers who demand the best from their equipment, or if you are just looking to keep your expensive lenses staying nice.
