I bought this to replace another Lavatools probe that had been left in the oven during cleaning so no longer works. When I plugged this in, it gave the instant read temperature (at the tip) but not the ambient temperature. I needed it right away, so decided to keep it, but it was disappointing.

I have found these probes to be quite easy to damage. They can be overheated easily and rendered useless.They're very touchy and should never be washed as that will damage them as well. Our first probe failed after 6 uses on the grill. Since I really like the bluetooth device it attaches to, we bought another probe.This second one we're on right now has been used twice, but I am being a lot more careful to make sure I don't overheat it, pinch it, or get it wet. It's supposed to be wiped clean after each use.I can't recommend these because of their low quality and inability to resist high temperatures or moisture, but they're the only game in town if you want to use a Lavatools bluetooth thermometer, so you're stuck. I'd look elsewhere for a different, more reliable device and associated probe.
