About this item

  • Hydrocotyle Tripartita, or Hydrocotyle Japan, is very versatile and can be used in the foreground, midground or background. It is undemanding and grows fast, submerged or emersed.
  • Clover-like leaves which can grow into compact bushes of green, giving your tank a neat, attractive appearance.
  • Medium difficulty - High light and Co2 injection is necessary to keep this plant low growing with a carpeting appearance, along with a regular nutrient schedule.
  • Ships in a 2” cup in tissue culture gel that should be removed before planting. Simply wash the gel away or soak the plant in water and squeeze the gel off with your fingers. Propagate by trimming stems and replanting on pulling apart dense clumps and splitting the roots. New shoots can be trimmed anywhere along the stem which allows the plant to grow thicker and more compact.
  • Tissue culture plants by SubstrateSource are grown in a state of the art laboratory specialized in propagating aquatic plants in vitro. They provide the best option to ensure that absolutely zero unwanted pests are introduced into your tank.

Hydrocotyle Tripartita 'Japan' – Ideal for Enhancing Your Aquarium's Background Design!

Hydrocotyle Japan was made famous due to its frequent usage by famous aquascapers such as Takashi Amano. It is characterized by its clover-like leaves which can grow into compact bushes of green. This plant is versatile and can be used in the foreground, midground or background. It is undemanding and grows fast, often out-competing and overgrowing the tank if left untrimmed. By frequently trimming new growth and using high light with CO2, the plant can stay low growing and create a carpeting effect over the foreground. Propagate by trimming stems and replanting on pulling apart dense clumps and splitting the roots. New shoots can be trimmed anywhere along the stem which allows the plant to grow thicker and more compact.

All the plants died within a week of purchasing. The company told me that I'm going to be reported for fraud because I don't have any plants to return. I went outside of Amazon to a website called Father Fish and got 18 plants for the same price. Even worse it says in their policy that they're going to charge me up to 20% for a restocking fee when I do return the dead crumbs that I gathered from the filter. Seems like a money grab to me.

The plant came dead; the package was frozen and inside no heat bag. Paid more for fast delivery and it came melting.

Arrived in good quality but died nearly instantly in the tank even though I followed all planting instructions and have a strong light. Such a bummer as I was so excited for this to eventually cover much of my small 5 gallon tank.

It’s a great plant, very delicate and sensitive to keep.I’d say that it’s recommended forA high tech tank with co2, nice flow and also powerful light.

Thankfully the shipper took precautions for me to receive this utricularia by adding a heater since it is very cold outside now. It looks to be in excellent health, super excited to plant it!

Very small amount recieved. Having said that it does look great in my aquarium. But probably needed 10 or so more.

So.. Maybe I misread something, but I thought this was grown from tissue cultures. Because of that, I was a bit less thorough in my cleaning process before planting. Within a few days, baby snails were spotted. They have since grown and I am battling to keep their numbers in check. This is the only plant...or anything.. I've added in a very long time. So there is no other explanation for the introduction of pond snails to my tank. However, it is partially my fault for not being as thorough. Also...they have really cleaned up plant debris quickly. So they're not all bad. But....I have a war on my hands because I do not want them in a betta tank because bettas like to sleep on the bottom of the tank and I. The plants. Makes me worry.Aside from the snails, the plant arrived healthy and as described. The normal death occurred shortly after planting but there is new growth going on now.
