Out of the whole kit I was only able to get one mold of my newborns foot and one of his hand. You need to work quickly once the material is ready for baby and one second makes all the difference. If you use warmer water the product will set quicker, so be careful. At first the color will be bright purple and when it’s ready to use it will turn white. Warning, the casting material will turn rubbery extremely fast with little cues from how dense it is to stir. I thought for sure that it would get thicker and harder to mix as it got close to setting with time for me to spare to get baby to it but it happens in an instant. If you wait too long it will turn to rubber fast and the mold will not allow you to put baby’s hand or foot into it. I did not use the bum cast, did not even realize it was part of the kit so I had extra to work with. If you have a newborn just use a smaller container and portion your casting materials in half to get another mold for practice. Also, try to do this when baby is asleep and with the assistance of someone to hold baby and another to hold the mold.

I bought this for my 10 month old and it is very easy to use. I wanted a mold of his foot and thought the high chair would be a good place to do this (it’s not). Despite him moving, pulling his foot out, the mold kind of spilling out when we put his foot in, it captured his foot very well (it didn’t turn out the best) but I was highly impressed with how well it worked despite everything I listed above. I would recommend using a taller container if you have one simply because when we put his foot in the mold it did spill over and made a mess but that is my only “complaint.” Overall, I love this product and can’t wait to do it on his hand!

I went to make a cast of my son's feet and hands, and it stayed liquid while mixing it, and within one stir, it went from liquid to congealed before it reached the color the instructions required. Needless to say, the product did NOT work and was a complete waste of $21. Not impressed.

There is a step learning curve with this. After watching video instructions, it didn't look that difficult but I was wrong! I almost feel like they should include an extra bag of the molding powder. The first bag I used to make a foot mold. While focusing on trying to get baby to stay still, I held her foot too close to the bottom of the tray so it didn't really capture the bottom of her toes. I used the 2nd bag to try her foot again but it was a total fail. I managed to use a small portion of the 2nd bag for her hand. The mold was successful and casting went ok but I don't think the compound went into the tips of her fingers. I ended up with 2 slightly imperfect casts but a whole bag of casting powder left. I'd love to do them again and use up the casting powder left but they only sell large bags of the molding powder. It would be great if they could sell a small bag of the molding powder.

This was very challenging with the first attempt. I tried with the help of my husband and my mom and with the three man team we still had a messy baby and a ruined mold. HOWEVER… I am stubborn and refused to let that be the end. We tried again the next day and here is what I learned: feed the baby and put the baby to DEEP sleep. My son’s arms were limp and dangling before I even attempted. The instructions say to use room temp water because warm water makes the mold harden quicker, don’t listen. You want it to be quick and the warm water keeps the baby calm and asleep (or at least did for me). Definitely buy the pack with 5 casts. We used the booty cast to redo the first hand attempt and you might need a redo also. We also thought we messed up all 5 but were pleasantly surprised when we revealed them after setting the stone mixture. Overall this was fun and user friendly AFTER a little practice and patience!

Used this for each of our children as newborns. Great way to remember the size and growth they've had since birth

That’s too long to set which can be challenging when baby keeps moving. The gel mould will sweat water which was also a little annoying. Regardless the end product turned out pretty good.

Such an amazing thing to make with a young infant. Easy instructions, just ensure it doesn't have lumps and even a wiggly baby should get a nice mould. Enough material to get multiple attempts. Highly recommend Luna Bean.
