Stainless Steel 304

Composition

304 (A2) is the most extensively used austenitic stainless-steel. It's also known as stainless steel 18/8 which is derived from the nominal composition of 18% chromium and 8% nickel.

Thanks to the chromium content, 304 stainless steel products show excellent corrosion and oxidation resistance.

Weakness

304 Stainless Steel is more likely to corrode from saline environments in coastal areas. That means grade 316 stainless steel is highly recommended for tough applications under the marine environment where there is more powerful acids and chemicals.

Application

  • Hardware (Bolts, Screws, Nuts, Washers and etc.)
  • Sanitaryware
  • Chemical Equipment
  • Machinery
  • Engineering
  • Architectural panelling

I cannot say anything about the lag bolts themselves but they were the nicest packaged/presented bolts I have ever purchased.

I don't have any concerns about strength, but will note that they are somewhat magnetic, and SS isn't supposed to be, so not sure what that means about durability. Wouldn't trust these to hold the boat in place, but for non-marine uses they are probably good.

I recently purchased the M8 x 45mm Hex Lag Screws to mount a door on my shed and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. These screws are made from high-quality 304 Stainless Steel 18/8, which ensures their durability and strength. The hexagon head design makes them easy to use with a wrench or pliers and ensures a secure grip while tightening. What impressed me the most about these lag screws is how well they held up during installation. They are tough enough to handle the heavy load of a door and provided a sturdy and secure mount for it. The 45mm length is perfect for medium-duty applications, and the pack of 15 is great value for money.I also appreciate that these lag screws meet DIN571 standards, which means they are manufactured to precise specifications for optimal performance. The threads are sharp and clean, making them easy to install, and the hexagonal head ensures a firm grip.Overall, I highly recommend the M8 x 45mm hex lag screws for any project that requires a strong and durable mounting solution. These screws are ideal for outdoor applications such as mounting doors, fences, or any other heavy-duty task. I will definitely be purchasing them again for future projects. 5 stars!

I have a lot of Aoesin bolts and screws. They are ALWAYS great quality. Living in a very, very rural area, popping over the the local hardware store is not easy and the local store quality is often lacking. Thus, I have my own supply of fasteners and Aoesin is my supplier of choice.5 stars and a strong recommendation.Note: I have been an Amazon customer for almost 20 years. I write all of my reviews to reflect my personal observations and opinions on a product. It matters not if I have purchased the item myself or if it was provided to me for review. My goal is to provide other potential customers as much real-world knowledge as possible to make an informed decision. In most cases I will return to my review in 6 months or less to see if I should alter my original observations. In no case will the cost of a product influence my opinions at all. In addition, I will try to include multiple images and or videos on each product, if practical.

How do you rate a lag bolt? Unless it’s weak metal and will snap when tightening, or it’s really rough casting, or it’s ridiculously high price, a bolt is a bolt. This bolt isn’t weak. I’m sure I could have used a cheater and wrung the head off, but who does that? The casting is normal for this type of bolt. The price is in line with hardware store prices. So why order it instead of going to the hardware store?Any time I need a bolt, or screw I spend ten minutes digging through my collection of left over nuts and bolts. About half the time I find something that works. The other half I have to make the thirty minute trip to the hardware store. If I factor in the time and expense of a hardware store bolt it’s a reasonable cost comparison to have six or so bolts in my “inventory.” I know it’s much less stressful.Five stars.

Item description: 304 SST lag screw, M8 x 35 mm, 15 ctBrand: AOESINItem: B0BPHP6LP5Date received: 2023-02-25Headline - Good value on shop-grade stainless steel lag-screws; M8 x 35Product Claims15 Ct M8 x 35 mm lag screw (close to 0.3125 in x 1.4 in)304 SST hex headI received exactly what was claimed in the product description as to quantity (15 total items), material (stainless), size (M8 x 35 mm)m and type (hex head lag screws). They were contained in a zipper plastic bag within a small, sealed, flat corrugated cardboard box. The box label was marked X003KCUZ4R M8 x 35mm (15 pcs) Hex Lag S ... Hexagon Head Lag Bolts, DIN571, then AOE-AM60203-15 304 SS NEW AOESIN MADE IN CHINA.I can't assess the product claim that these are specifically 304 alloy stainless steel, but they are only mildly magnetic, as would be normal for most highly cold-worked stainless steel alloys. (Carbon steel would be much more strongly magnetic.) I also have no access to the German DIN 571 standard to compare these dimensions against the standard, so I will simply be reporting what I see. These are not fully-threaded; there is about a 0.35 inch region of non-threaded shank near the head. The solid shank diameters of these screws are undersized for the reported nominal size, while the root diameter of the threaded portions are larger than expected. This means 1) you may need to adjust your through hole and pilot hole diameters to better match these actual diameters. 2) Thread heights are slightly shorter than expected, so will tend to have somewhat less holding strength than typically proportioned screws.Measurements, inchesNominal Shank Thread Thread Thread Overall Threaded HeadDiameter Diameter Major Minor/Root Depth Length Length ThicknessDiameter Diameter8 mm 0.295 0.294 0.224 0.030 1.594 1.057* 0.222---*From start of first thread to tipNominal Hex Head WrenchDiameter Width Size8 mm 0.506 in 13 mmWhy stainless? - stainless screws are not necessarily the highest strength screw you can find (carbon steel screws are normally stronger), but they are normally strong enough for most uses, and they will not corrode (much, some mild surface corrosion is possible). They provide a great broad-based solution for small shops.

Could not find suitable ones at local Home Depot. Decided to check out Amazon. Glad I find this one. Very happy about the quality as received. Used 10 already to hold heavy duty on wall shelf bracket. Not a single one broken (bad experience before with HD size 12 wood screws).
