Product is thick & feels sturdy. It’s a shiny black. On the corner it looks like they overheated it a little as there’s some bubbling. It came with a protective film that peeled off except for the spot where it looked to have been too warm. That took a long time to get off with my finger nail. I didn’t want to use anything abrasive as I didn’t want to scratch the glossy finish. Magnet is very thick and gives a good hold. I didn’t really need the pen holder, but it seems sturdy as well. I plan on using this in our kitchen to collect mail.

The description of these shelves says they can hold up to 8.8 pounds and will not fall off. They held for about a week and a half. I came into the classroom one morning and the magnet had come apart from the shelf and my lightweight paperback picture books were on the floor. A few days later, the same thing happened with the second shelf. They definitely cannot hold 8 pounds.
