The LockTide Manual Bread Slicer does do a good job of slicing homemade sour dough bread. When I saw the product photos I was apprehensive about the dangers of an unguarded spinning blade. Now that I have used the slicer I am less worried. The blade is essentially a circular bread knife. It needs to be treated with respect but it does need to be in motion to really cut. The handle is geared down so it takes multiple turns of the handle per single revolution of the blade. The blade is moving relatively slowly as you cut and it stops immediately if you aren't turning the handle. This is clearly the best tool I have found so far for slicing bread and I have tried several. I took off a star for two reasons. First, it is a bit difficult to keep clean. You need to wipe the blade with a damp towel to clean the blade and access on the handle side is limited. The blade throws off crumbs that accumulate under the platform of the slicer. It is a major shortcoming not to have a slide out crumb tray on the bottom of the slicer. You will appreciate the strong suction cups until you decide it is time to clean under the slicer, which probably should be done after each loaf of bread. Second, even $90 seems pricey for this slicer. Don't get me wrong. If you are a home bread maker you might want to bite the bullet and spend the money to have a good solution for slicing bread. But it is a high enough price that it makes me stop and think about how much the convenience of being able to make well sliced bread is really worth.

I've used bread knives before, and while they work, they can never get that perfect slice. Even with the wooden guides you can use with them, you can never get a thin enough slice from a nice home-made bread or a bread from the bakery. This solves that issue. It gives you super fine adjustment (out to some really thick slices) but it is a manual blade so its easy to use and doesn't need to be plugged in. The base comes with suction cups which is a nice touch to keep it from slipping around. Just slide the bread across the board while you twist the handle and come out with great thin sliced bread every time. And the EXACT same size every time, which is great. Easy to replace the blade or sharpen it if needed, making it a great long term value.

It occurs to me that I could use my old electric meat slicer to cut my sourdough loaves but that thing is big, heavy and a pain in the neck to clean. I happened to see this Manual Bread Slicer for Homemade Breads and ordered it right away. The footprint on this device is approximately the size of a sheet of copy paper (specifically 7.8" x 11.8"). It is substantially lighter than my old electric meat slicer and, in my opinion, it's easier to use and takes up so much less space in my tiny kitchen.I went to move the slicer to shape new loaves of bread and I was quite surprised at the substantial grip with which the feet on this slicer was holding onto my countertop. The slicer itself works beautifully. You use one hand to hold/push the loaf of bread and the other hand to manually crank the 6.6" serrated slicer blade. I think a left handed person could use this as well as anyone else.I love the range of adjustability on this slicer from paper thin to slightly more than 3/4 of an inch. When I sliced a 2-day-old loaf of seeded sourdough this morning, I noticed that there were virtually no crumbs because the slicer blade did such a marvelous job of slicing the loaf. I haven't tried in on a softer sandwich loaf of yeast bread but it works great on sourdough. This slicer is $120 in March 2025 (there is a $30 coupon available, which brings the price down to $89) and, if that is within your budget, it's a great way to easily and quickly slice loaves. There is literally zero branding on the slicer itself or on the box in which it arrived. The only clue as to the origins of this slicer is the name "Vanerepok" on the sparsely-worded manual and an email address of WoodrowLeonar@outlook.com (no website).A WORD OF CAUTION:If you have small children or grandchildren in your home, give a great deal of thought to where and how you are going to store this manual bread slicer so they cannot get to it. The slicer itself seems safe to operate so long as an adult is exercising caution. My concern is that a child should never have access to it.

Very unique bread cutting design! Very sharp so be careful! It's not super easy to clean so that's not great but it doesn't help to speed up the cutting process and seems to help make a more uniform slice which is nice. Overall it is helpful but just wish it was easier to clean.

We own one of the German made bread slicers that looks almost exactly like this and costs more than twice as much. There really is not a lot of difference between the two that we could find. The construction of this bread slicer is very solid and of high quality. It matches the German made slicer in almost every way. The piece that the bread rests on when cutting moves easily and smoothly. The base board has markings which help identify the thickness the bread is cut at. The blade is super sharp and again turns easily and smoothly and cuts bread so well. If you make your own bread and slice it having one of these slicers is a must. It saves time and effort and creates perfectly even bread slices every time.

The cutter works great and has saved me so much time and mess cutting my sourdough! HOWEVER, mine came with a big scratch on the wood and all the measurement markings came off within a week of use… and I haven’t even washed it. Just wiped it down with a paper towel to get the crumbs off! Should be a little better for $100!

I absolutely love this bread slicer! I make sourdough bread all different types and sizes. I've used several types of regular knifes and a wooden bread cutting guide in past. This slicer is the easiest by far and if used correctly and carefully the safest. The only down side is after washing it twice the slice calibration marks washed off. otherwise I'd give it a 5.
